"Moral" Party Looks for Loopholes
In a move of hypocrisy that even has the kettle-insulting pot of lore shaking its head in disbelief the GOP members of the House of Representatives are almost certain to make an exception to their own ethics rules in case House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (Former Pesticide Enthusiast-TX) is indicted.
Why would the Republicans who have recently taken to telling any fool with a camera or tape recorder that they won the recent election because of "moral" issues want to risk their carefully constructed reputation on Mr. DeLay? Apparently, they feel indebted to him for delivering 5 new House seats for the GOP in TX. Those seats came from the redistricting plan pushed through by DeLay. The same redistricting effort that is part of the grand jury investigation that might indict the Congressman. "Oh, what a tangled web we weave..."
Republican members are quick to state that they don't think DeLay will be indicted and have no idea why he would even be investigated. They just want to be sure they don't get caught with their political pants down. It might look bad to violate their own rule which was installed to show a ethical distinction between the House controlling Democrats and the GOP in 1993.
Is there a possibility the Republicans might find a conscience lying about somewhere? Well, DeLay could ask them to not vote on the change...so we'll put that down as a No.
How is it that the Republicans can do this with a straight face? It's all about conviction. If you lie to yourself long enough you can believe anything. This is the party of the man who said that if you say anything enough it becomes true (Ronald Reagan). There specific logic is this...more at www.otterblog.com
