I've been giving much thought lately to the success the far right has experienced which far outstrips their proportional numbers. One of the factors of their success is because they are flat out noisy. If they don't like something they say so. In that vein, I sent the following letter to the Christian Coalition.
----------------------------
To Whom It May Concern:
Yesterday a friend of mine received a call from an organization claiming to perform polling efforts on behalf of your organization. The content of the call made it clear he was subject to an unethical practice commonly referred to as "push polling." As you are undoubtedly aware, a push poll is when, under the guise of opinion polling, disinformation about a candidate or issue is planted in the minds of those being 'surveyed'. Push-polls are designed to shape, rather than measure, public opinion.
I am concerned that an organization which prides itself on representing the moral values of Christianity would sanction such an insidious tactic as push polling. I am particularly disturbed by the content of the push poll which was designed to instill hatred against our homosexual brothers and sisters. Did not Christ say, “If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.” 1 John 4:20.
I pray that my friend was mislead and the Christian Coalition is not in the habit of spreading hatred and fear via deception. If your organization is sponsoring these polls I urge you to cease immediately. Christians should not associate themselves with such deceptive practices.
Best Regards, Rev. _____ ________, FL

Do I expect it to make a difference? No. Will I feel better having had my say? Yes. What if 50,000 people sent letters condemning the practice? Or 150,000 or 250,000? I believe these organizations have an over-inflated sense of power because they receive far more positive feedback than negative. Why stop at writing letters to the media and our representatives?
Off to pen a missive to Dr. Dobson to spank him for his unChristian dialogue with George S.
