When was the last time anyone besides a Governor or sitting VP..
was elected to the presidency? Neither Democrats nor Republicans have had success recently running Senators. Do you think that's a coincidence? I don't.

was the last. Carter, Reagan, Bush II and Clinton had been Governors, and Bush I was a sitting VP. Ford was never elected.

But Nixon suffered the same insider status that being a Senator brings with it, and the voting record. Bush 41 had been with the CIA and state department after being, briefly, a member of the House.
