Tucker Carlson showing photos from sorryeverybody.com
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 06:27 PM by JudyM
Discussing the benefits of living in Europe... multiculturalism ... global dream of inclusiveness, sustainability, peace ... with author Jeremy Rifkin. He's pointing out that Europeans are better educated, have better work-life balance (more vacation), lower infant mortality, lower murder rates, etc.

Carlson ends by pointing people to the opposing view re:Shrub on "werenotsorry.com"

4. However,
the only way the world can survive is with tolerance and multiculturalism, etc, etc. I only hope that they discover this before their brand of jingoism kills masses of us.....

2. is he laughing about it?
like the neocon kid I overhead in a Springfield MO restaurant who also dissed pacifists? (He was only 12, or I would have asked him why he wasn't over in Iraq fighting, since he thought it was so wonderful).

20. Yes, and thought he behaved surprisingly well through his whole show
Just saw it on a local PBS station this afternoon.

Sure, he asked some freeper-type questions, but wasn't at all the obnoxious nerd he displays himself as on Crossfire. Maybe it's because the PBS show has his name on it.

I was going to start a thread about this show to mention that Amy Goodman was his first guest. At first he interrupted her a bit, but she always came back to him with the facts. To his credit, he backed down after each time. Maybe he received a little education by listening to her.

I was amazed at that show - with her and with Jeremy Rifkin as guests, it was actually worth watching. If PBS is putting him on, I hope they're insisting on quality and not freeper talk from him.

13. Wait a few decades and you'll see what happens to Europe.
I believe they've been blind to the actual cost of the social programs they've been supporting. Things will change. I lived in Europe for 25 years. I'm not sure what you mean by "higher standard" of living. Most people are overwhelmed there as well. Taxes and cost of living are incredibly high. Health care is technically free, but in practice you have to wait forever to get it, in many cases.

29. With Shrub in office we have enough to do
to watch our own nation.

We have more imprisoned in this nation than in any other. This "Prison state" is no indication of "freedom" only an indication of how strong the prison lobby is. While Shrubbie's pals in the incarceration biz make boatloads of cash, States are going bankrupt trying to support said prisons and the draconian laws used to fill the prisons to the hilt. They can't pay teachers because non-violent offenders need to be tortured and that costs money!

This is only one sign of America's future collapse.

Spending your nation's fortunes waging war all over the world is the biggest sign. Every nation that has tried the Imperialist path over domestic improvement has FAILED. COLLAPSED.

14. Did you see
how many of the pictures on werenotsorry.com had guys holding guns?

Also their little flash presentation on the homepage says the soldiers didn't find any WMD but they did find.... and then they show various pictures of human skills in dirt.

So what they're saying is that it's justified to go over there lose over a thousand of our own soldiers and kill 100,000 innocent Iraqi civilians even though there is no WMD's because Saddam killed thousands of innocent Iraqi's.

I wonder why they don't point out that when Saddam was killing all of these people Reagan and Bush Sr. were in office and they didn't seem to mind then. They even supported him.

This warped logic if you can call it that is crazy making.

18. besides the "me big penis" guys (and some gals), and the
"look at our nice white family" pics, and the "fuck you world" pics, there also seems to be quite a contingent of "look at me I'm a porn star" chicks. What is UP with that? Oh yeah, guys wanting to fake a sense of power go for guns and cars, women wanting to feel some power and control go for the look I'm a sex goddess style.

19. Living in Europe
He's pointing out that Europeans are better educated, have better work-life balance (more vacation), lower infant mortality, lower murder rates, etc.

That's because they have quality day care, universal health care and laws to protect the worker. It's really easy to have an educated, healthy and happy society if you put liberals in charge.

34. Ok, the one thing I dislike about it over here in Europe -
no shopping on Sundays. I know the workers want their "family day" and it's great and all. But try working all week and shopping on Sat. It's a nightmare. They have extended hours on Sat to 8pm. And there are stores taking advantage of opening up in train stations so they can be open on Sunday. But it seems like the economy could get a kick if they let the people shop a little more.

Ok, I guess there are two things. I think the 6 weeks of vacation is a bit much. I can see 4 weeks. I mean they have holidays every other week practically and EVERYTHING is closed. With small kids I have to stockpile on things lest I forget a holiday coming up and run out of diapers.

Other than that - they have the right idea about health care - and you can buy supplemental insurance to get better service and more options.

22. Is Tucker Carlson REALLY a conservative???
Every time I see his show, he seems to be crawling more and more to the liberal side.

Come on over, Tucker...it's much more civilized over here - and we can tolerate a bow tie or two.

28. not a bad guy
If you're basing your opinion of Carlson from Crossfire then you probably think that he's a jerk, but in my mind he's simply a person who looks at the world in a different manner, not a distorted manner, just different. If we can't accept those Republicans/Conservatives who express their beleifs in a reasonable manner then we're all screwed.

31. Send those pics to the White House
Or better yet, where your "I Love Bush!" t-shirt to the Shrub's next photo opportunity, then hold up posters showing all the death and chaos he's wrought just to make his neo-fascist buddies richer and more powerful.

Damn those bastards. Damn them straight to Hell.

32. Did he ever make a comment about the election results?
Remember how he predicted Kerry would win by 2%.

Didn't he ever comment on that?

Surely he thought the final result was a little off . . . since he went out on that limb with his prediction.
