Than questioning everything everybody else did. Kerry got sensational help from the party and the grass roots. Kerry's people were almost 100% behind him.
John Kerry is the most gutless politician there is. People could see that. John Kerry said, "I'm going to continue talking about values in this campaign, but, I'm going to talk about them less often than George Bush does." Kerry's only conviction seemed to be to avoid conflict.
Kerry barely fought back against Bush's attacks. I thought Kerry needed a boot from down below to get back on track. Most of the left regarded any suggestion that things needed to change as an outrage. Warnings of loss were laughed at as predictions that "the sky is falling in." Flame wars erupted against those who posted their doubts. Denial was strong.
Fortunately, many people saw that Kerry was blowing it. Pressure from the party turned things around when Kerry was plummeting into the low forties. The pressure that brought Kerry back wasn't sustained, though. The base remained in denial. Kerry went back to covering up and clinging to the ropes every chance he got.
During the election, everybody was excited that we were all on the same page for once. We all wanted to stop Bush. Harmony became more important than winning, and everything was done to protect temporary harmony. Losing broke harmony.
Now, every fringe cause believes that the party is in ruins and the solution is to remold the party in their own fringe image. Differing opinions are likely to hopelessly split the party apart. Fights have started and blame has been passed around between allies. I think everybody agrees that leaders are needed who will fight more. There isn't enough agreement on what to fight for.
So, it all returns to denial. Now they say the election was fixed. There is tremendous raw power in the net. This encounter between the public and the net lefties is going to leave the public with the impression that net lefties are all kooks. There is no proof for the election being fixed.
I say that rather than descend into fighting and denial, if would be far healthier to blame John Kerry. Sure, the party needs to be improved. Sure, we need to audit this election to make sure elections in the future are honest.
Look at all the good things that are there now that weren't before. The left was able to raise more money than they ever dreamed was possible. The net is a new communications system that connects the grass roots together. It is easy to be better informed. There are 527s now that can even run ads when the press doesn't pick up stories. A great future is in store once an emotional outlet is found. Blaming Kerry solves everything. Denial and blaming each other won't help.
