Why are so many "forums" and "groups" showing up....

on my "Latest Discussion Threads" page? I thought we would only see the ones we checked to be "My Forums". Is this just happening while the new system goes into operation, or am I doing something wrong. All these posts are swamping the things I am interested in seeing/following. I posted this query in "Ask the Admins" but I know those guys are busy enough right now and so I'll ask it here in the event that someone else knows the answer. And thanks.
