Conversations
Over the past few days, I've had some interesting conversations. Not with Freepers (they seem mighty silent lately, has my rep spread that fast?) but with people.

At McDonalds Sunday, I took my son (4 years old, don't turn your back on him) to eat and play at the jungle jim, and while ordering food I had a copy of Time magazine (I'll read anything). On the back page, was some crap about how 'now that we've done the hard part, the UN should help out in Iraq...after all, if they want us to help out in Liberia, they should relieve our troops in Iraq' (not an exact quote, but you get the drift).
The manager saw the article and said it reminded him of Vietnam. I told him not yet, but it will get that bad if we aren't careful.
He asked if I supported the troops, and I told him I was one of the troops. And proved it.
He asked why the UN didn't want to help out in Iraq, and I told him the UN KNEW, just like Bushco, that the excuse we used for invasion was bull. Why should the UN help us, when that would only encourage Bushco to do it again?
He agreed with me, and I walked away.

Visiting my favorite game store today, I talked to the clerk; we have talked before. And he aggrees: what is the point in all this crap? Bushco is ruining the country; between his catering to the far right to wanting guns and butter in this war (LBJ did it, funding the Great Society and Vietnam; it was a mistake; GWBushco is doing it now with tax cuts and the war on terror/or Iraq; another mistake) to ruining the economy. The lack of WMD in Iraq did not surprise him; he expected that the claims would turn out to be a lie. I told the clerk about DU, and I hope he visits and becomes a member.

1. Keep it up
More and more we seem to be finding people who are moderates that have a distaste for Bush.

The interesting thing is that although people are reluctant to start bashing him, once you get them talking their words speak volumes.

3. Same experiences here
I've had a number of very surprising coversations with "real people" all over the US since I strarted traveling a lot for work about three weeks ago--hotel desk clerks, clients, drivers, people in restaurants, on planes, etc.

I wear a small peace-sign pin on my lapel which apparently strikes people as odd (One woman told me I look like a Republican, which I chalk up to my short hair and excellent taste in suits...LOL)so conversation often turns to the war.

I'd say at least eight percent of the people I've talked to have at serious misgivings about the way things are going in iraq. Half of those agree that the war was a huge blunder.

Two (both in San Antonio)have implied that I am unpatriotic. One (a convenience clerk in Chicago) asked if I supported "the terrorists."

The tide is turning folks. Do not let up.
