Where does Alberto Gonzales stand on social issues?
Is he a right wing christian who wants to impose his vision of morality on the rest of us? Or is he a more socially moderate pug like Rudy G.? Or is it unknown?

I imagine he'll just do what he's told.

2. He thinks the path set by John Ashcroft is the proper one.
I heard him live on MSNBC.

That should tell you something.

3. He's reportedly more socially moderate... except when it comes to TORTURE.
He's a big fan of it.

Kinda takes the "compassionate" out of "conservative," doesn't it?

10. I'd like to point out that Gonzales was, in all likelihood,
heavily influenced by his right-wing crackpot principal deputy at the time--Timothy E. Flanigan. Flanigan is undoubtedly responsible for the torture memoranda that came out of DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel (where he served as Asst. Attorney General in Bush I).

Gonzales is actually frowned upon by the Ashcroft/Olson types who view him as insufficiently conservative.

I'm concerned that we will end up with someone like Ted Olson or Tim Flanigan or David Leitch (former Rehnquist clerk and general counsel of FAA on 9/11) as new White House Counsel. Bush is an idiot and he doesn't realize that these particular lawyers are totally full of shit.

5. so is he worse or better than Ashcroft
that is a relative question, I guess. Is this an improvement? Just the fact that Ashcroft will be gone is a relief.

7. John Mitchell was Nixon's attorney General
He protected Nixon and was also involved in criminal activities to protect Nixon. This is getting to look like the Nixon administration more and more. Only worse. Gonzales covered up the funeral gate in Texas for Bush when Bush was Governor. Also I think he erased any crimial charges from Bush's past. The perfect reward.

6. He wrote the brief that said that we did
not have to follow Geneva Convention rules or other treaties and encouraged Bush to use torture and in human treatment and they still didn't get a single conviction... SO YOU CAN TAKE FROM THAT You are not required to do anything other than disagree with the presidential 'DIP WAD' to end up receiving lots and lots of torture......Must I be blunter.....

8. Just heard a report on BBC SW...apparently, he may get a bit of
flack before he is confirmed from the RW. While a TX Supreme Court judge, he ruled on several abortion by-pass cases, and allowed the girl in question to get an abortion without talking to her parents.

He also has been a little bit off the reservation on affirmative action.

So, he is apparently not PURE FUNDIE...however, the reporter said that the fundies will go along with him, in spite of his SINS...in other words, they are hypocrites when it suits them....
