Had just reached the point in the morning routine where it was time to switch away from the 24-hour news to the network. Had had it drummed into me that there were 10 GIs dead, that town was smoking, hostages were taken.

Imagine the surprise to have those scenes disappear and suddenly have a full fledged mardi gras or something going on in Times Square, with Charlie, Diane, Robin, and Tony jumping for joy. Shrub's America has taken compartmentalism to a new level.

Unforutnately, until enough walking wounded and funerals are held here people aren't affected and don't care. Until it's their kids who are dragged into this mess will they care, then we'll be blamed for not having warned them.
