The Draft
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 12:17 AM by The FBI Monkey
I am disappointed that Bush won, but what really concerns me is the draft. I am 14 years old and I dont want to live everyday in fear that people at my school could be taken to the war and potentially killed. I also dont want to be taken to the war myslef...I am scared shitless everytime I hear some troop dies because I know that I could be in that position one day.

2. The reason I support the draft with no deferments
is that it means the if the country goes to war we don't just send the underclass who is desprate for a job or college money. No draft the kids of the people in congress and folks would think twice before deploying our children oversees. But as long as it's the hispanics and the blacks doing the fighting the elite won't give a rip who gets killed.

No be afraid and register now as a CO -- BTW all United Methodist Pastors are by discipline supposed to be able to council youth on the process of becoming a CO.

5. There Is No Such Thing as a Fair Draft
Never has been, never will be.

I hope you never get drafted.

3. Hang in there
I have children about your age and its scares me too. The best thing you can do is to try and gain conscientous objector status now. I'm not sure how you go about this but you could check with some of the veterans for peace status.

4. Hey, what are you doing up on a school night? It's bed time!
But I'm glad to see young people interested in politics.

I understand your concern. I also worry for my grandson.
Keep your chin up...The Democrats won't let that happen. Now get to bed quick before I tell your Momma.

Oh yeah...welcome to DU!

10. i have a son 17
and one 14. you are right to feel that way. i was draft age during vietnam and for 5 years i didn t know what to do with my life. luckily i fell through the crack between the end of 1971 and the beginning of 1972. but if there is a draft the '00s will make the '60s look like a garden party!
