Why was Porter Goss chosen to be head of the CIA?
I know he's a republican and I know he's a Bush man, but really, why was he chosen? Does the CIA want him? Is he there to be Bush's snake eyes so that no one "steps out of line"...just curious. Never saw a real reason as to why he was chosen. Very interesting.

1. He's got Bush's back.
I suspect that they both have motivation to keep 9/11 from ever rearing its ugly head.

3. 9/11?
"On the morning of September 11, the three lawmakers Bob Graham, Porter Goss and Jon Kyl (who were part of the Congressional delegation to Pakistan) were having breakfast on Capitol Hill with General Ahmad, the alleged "money-man" (to use the FBI expression) behind the 9/11 hijackers."

10. Thanks. Now I understand why
Bob Graham supported Goss for the post as head of the CIA.

7. so is that why you think he was chosen
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 01:18 AM by Blue_Roses
seriously, I don't mean to sound like a smart ass just wondering. I still haven't heard a clear meaning from Bush or Congress as to why he was chosen so fast.

8. Well I think it gave credibility to his nomination
... the main reason he was chosen is because he will be a Bushbot. But the public excuse is because of his experience in the CIA. Of course the dems caved on that, too. CIA is not supposed to be a partisan operation. More eroding of our checks and balances. Think banana republic.

9. He's a longtime Bush fixer, Dems could have delayed or stopped him...
But Daschle wanted to lose his election instead of fight to stop the nomination, so they let him pass. He's a special kind of political operative with a unique history, and he was picked to stop CIA leaks and make them fall in line. He's one of the few people who may be able to do this with some effectiveness.

The photo below shows him in some infamous company. Google "Operation 40" for details. Closest to the camera on the left is Felix Rodriguez. Next to him is Porter Goss and Barry Seal.
