I think it is much more important to focus on winning back , or evening up, the house/senate in 06.

I think the most important thing we can do right now is work on the house senate and local races in 06 but I am still interested in who the Dem party might want to nominate for 08. Because we aren't in the white house the candidate could start campaigning at the beginning of next year. Get out there, get his/her name known. (although I think Hillary is a poor choice. She polarizes the right) Start educating the Red states as SOON AS POSSIBLE.

I for one and am going to be working here in FL because ole Jeb can't run again. Thank you term limits! I'm going to try my best to get a Dem Governor.

The thing is is that the Repugs know how to work FL. They know that FL has a large cuban pop. so they run Martinez for senator. Betty Castor did not have a chance. They know exactly how to appeal to their base here and the Dem party here really sucks at it.

6. Nah.
I dig that stuff. It's like alt-history. It's fun to speculate.

Anyway, it's not an either/or proposition. We can focus on the battles of today while fantasizing about the prospects of the future.

At least I can.

Let's stay focused on keeping the base together and recruiting people for 2006. Once that is done, we will have two full years of guessing the future.

17. Just curious
Would we be having these same discussions if Kerry had won by 100,000 votes in Ohio insead of lost? I am just curious where our rationality has gone. I mean, geez, let's all just jump off a cliff or move to Canada for all the crying on here. We need to do the proper thing, quit bitching and work within the system. Obviously the system works if we were able to put Bill in office for two terms and give him a congress to work with. Sanity people...quit groaning about the past...fix the future.

18. have you lurked for a while, or are you brand new to DU?
I ask, because there has been a marked difference in attitude here. after kerry's alleged defeat, there was and still is rampant speculation and bitterness.

25. If Kerry was president elect at this moment...
I would hope that we would not be wondering who we would nominate in 4 years. Maybe then we would be focused on 2006.

I agree, learn from the past and fix the future.

By the way, welcome to DU.

19. Lets stop pushing the future for a moment
Its a form of convenient dissociation, to avoid current emotions and
the potential need to contemplate the results of where we're at,
and instead jump ahead in election planning and personality pushing
for some fantasy future.

It hurts to lose, when you try hard to win. It hurts to be wronged
and violated. It hurts to have a vision of a great country we've
all come to accept as our divine birthright usurped from under our
noses.

My 2 cents would be to accept the present, and observe and listen
for the next month until the winter solstice. Let the earth's
natural cycle of renewal end this year and take all the confusion
with it in to the darkest day, so that as the days start getting
longer again after december 22nd (newyears), we're refreshed.

Everyone is frazzled around the edges, can't sleep, upset, emotionally wobbly... its frankly just not a state of mind to be
making strategic decisions in. Take a break, spend an hour hugging
a loved on in silence.... unplug the cable and the TV and spend this
time healing really, not talking shit.

Create a sacred space in your time, your home and your heart where
there is something beyond this civil war... take the politics out
of at least 1 room, so at least there's one place in your life not
wired in to this civil war... as all of us need a safe bunker to
gain some distance.

2008, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2024...
there are a lotta elections out there, and they're not gonna come
any faster by thinking about them now, and as the context of
politics is in a continuous flux, there is no predicting. Honestly
had you asked me in the aftermath of 2000 who we were gonna run in
2004, i would have said President Gore. Things changed, and wasting
any time on such fantasy tickets is a symptom of avoiding pain.

Better to accept pain and feel through it. There is nothing to
fear. We will all die, and this empire, win or lose, will be
forgotten by this earth, just like the trials of so many empires
in times past. Find a good science fiction book, make love, go
hiking, camping, swimming, or whatever.... but this hammering
on fantasy futures is not helpful to anyone.

we have to 'win' those before any talk of 2008 will make any sense

22. Nothing matters unless we can get the votes counted
and there is no vote suppression. And get rid of the e-voting machine that have no paper ballot and no paper trail.

The GOP can manipulate the dem vote and decide who wins OUR election -- it probably happened in the Florida Dem Governor race.

23. as long as Republicans (and Republican corporations) control . . .
the voting process in this country, it won't matter who we run . . . in 2006, in 2008, ever . . . because we'll have absolutely no chance of stopping voting fraud and election theft . . . unless we expose it and stop it right now, in 2004, the Democratic Party will become about as relevant as Lyndon LaRouche: always on the ballot, never winning a damned thing . . .
