23. Zell
I have no idea what went awry with Zell's wiring. He was just about the most popular governor in Georgia history and he'll certainly be remembered for the GA lottery and for HOPE scholarships. He was never "liberal" per se, but he was competent and respectable. I have the feeling that he got to the Senate and decided that the only way that he could make a big splash and build a name for himself was to be this obnoxious contrarian crank. I think it was a definite case of fish/pond syndrome that just got deeper and deeper. Of course, judging my my state's Bush/Kerry electoral margin I guess he was just representing his constituents.

need to examine what Zell said in greater depth. If you look without that chip on your shoulder , you might learn something about why Bush got re-elected.

You are entitled to your opinion -- it's the retardican way to say you don't have a right --but be serious Zel Miller may have helped Bush in the hateful areas of our country but that is not our way.
If we lose and are right we can live with ourselves and maybe change that hatred --If we win because we give in to hatred we really lost.
I think we won knowing there are millions who reject hatred.

I did not know that I would be accused of trying to spread hate.
Zell brought up some issues that matter to red state people.
And I was of the impression that some of you were interested in some
feed back. I was wrong . I'll drop it.

21. Army ranger is missing the fun
I got my kills ... I just love my job': For many American soldiers the opportunity to avenge dead friends by taking a life was a moment of sheer exhilaration. http://207.44.245.159/article7258.htm

09/11/04 "The Telegraph" -- After seven months in Iraq's Sunni triangle, for many American soldiers the opportunity to avenge dead friends by taking a life was a moment of sheer exhilaration.
As they approached their "holding position", from where hours later they would advance into the city, they picked off insurgents on the rooftops and in windows.
"I got myself a real juicy target," shouted Sgt James Anyett, peering through the thermal sight of a Long Range Acquisition System (LRAS) mounted on one of Phantom's Humvees.

"Prepare to copy that 89089226. Direction 202 degrees. Range 950 metres. I got five motherf****** in a building with weapons."
Capt Kirk Mayfield, commander of the Phantoms, called for fire from his task force's mortar team. But Sgt Anyett didn't want to wait. "Dude, give me the sniper rifle. I can take them out - I'm from Alabama."

Two minutes tick by. "They're moving deep," shouted Sgt Anyett with disappointment. A dozen loud booms rattle the sky and smoke rose as mortars rained down on the co-ordinates the sergeant had given.
"Yeah," he yelled. "Battle Damage Assessment - nothing. Building's gone. I got my kills, I'm coming down. I just love my job." (more)

Sure that is true. And it may inform our tactics. But you can't be like Zell without giving up the principles that brought us here.

I heard him. I reject what he says.

Is there anything specific that would inform us. If so please elucidate.

His speech at the '92 Democratic Convention introducing Big Dog was just fine.

I guess he was trying to show his versatility.

14. First of all, Shrub was not
"re-elected", since he was actually selected by his family buddies on the Supreme Court in 2000. Second, there's massive evidence of even more voting fraud this time around. And third, Zell is a racist, sexist, homophobic bigot who would be just as happy as sugar in a punch bowl if we returned to segregation, if the "brown people taking over" were put back in their place again, and women were put back in the kitchen, endlessly cooking and cleaning and popping out babies every ten months. I

n other words, he wishes we were back in the 1940's or earlier, which is why he backed the candidate most likely to make that happen. And I refuse to be called "anti-American" by a hateful bigot who considers more than half the country to be unworthy of any consideration at all.

20. You've got a point...
... we can indeed "learn something about why Bush got re-elected" from Miller: his speech to the RNC was a crock of lies and distortions appealing to fear, ignorance, stupidity, and bigotry. Isn't it amazing how that dovetailed so perfectly with Bush*' campaign strategy?

Thanks for your "concern," but the question now is not what we learned; it's what we do about it.

22. Miller's appearance on The Daily Show
When Miller appeared on The Daily Show some months back, I was ready to spew all over the tv screen. Knowing Zell's reputation, I assumed it would be a disgusting experience. By the end of the show, I actually liked Miller -- he was articulate, had specific political convictions, and was friendly.

Needless to say, the Zell Miller we saw at the Repuke Convention was not the same personality displayed on The Daily Show. I've gone back to hating him -- and I give Stewart all the credit in the world for bringing out the best in the people he interviews.

40. Oh Zell!
My favorite Zell Miller moment has to be his interview with Judy Woodruff of CNN right after his speech at the Repug Convention.

Judy asked him why he has remained a Democratic, in spite of all his differences with the Party. He said he was going to remain a Democrat until the day he died, so when he goes to the "pearly gates" (his words) he can tell his mother and father he remained a Democrat all his life! What?!

Then of course, I can't forget him telling Chris Matthews he wishes he could challenge him to a duel.

What a piece of work! Good riddance!
