I found something interesting in Florida's County voter registration lists
Edited on Tue Nov-09-04 01:52 AM by rockydem
Note: these are two counties that were featured in Olbermann's piece tonight. More registered Dems but they went for Bush this time. But they also did in 2000. They are Southern dixiecrat-type counties.

Dixie County had 9,003 Democrats registered in 2000, but only 7,495 in 2004. It had1,095 registered Repubicans in 2000, and 1,454 in 2004.

Dixie County loses 1,508 Democrats, but only gains 395 Republicans?
So where are these Democrats going? I guess they could be moving.

In Baker County Democratic registration is also down.
2000: rep 1684 dem 10261
2004: rep 3126 dem 8926
Note that the loss/gain numbers are about equal. So either these Democrats moved or a bunch of angry Dixiecrats stormed into the County offices to change their party affiliation. But who really does that?

1. Felon Purge?
Could there have been that many suspected felons? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause the number to drop precipitously. Or if there were some other type of cleanup effort, like a long-overdue effort to get the deceased off the rolls.

A lot of these registered Democrats would have been old-school Dixiecrat Dems - could they have just keeled over? How many people die in a county in four years?
