It worked! It worked! Put this on your car!
I have avoided playing the anti-choice wild card. You know, how they blow up photos of aborted fetuses to gigunda proportions and force people to see them?

I thought it might seem tacky to display any pictures of Iraqi war dead during the campaign. But the campaign's over. And dead babies need to be forced down every Repukes throat right now.

So I put up three graphic, tragic pictures of mutilated Iraqi children, along with the signs "JESUS WEEPS-100,000+ DEAD" and "WHILE REPUBLICANS GLOAT OVER SPOILS OF WAR" complete with bloody hand dripping red on my rear car window.

I also put one on the side window: "WANT MORALITY? OUTLAW DIVORCE!"

Well, NOBODY tailgated me! Isn't that amazing? Even on heavy city streets, two lanes held WAAAAAAY back behind me. If someone got caught behind me at a red light, they looked like they'd rather be anywhere else.

ANd the best part? Pulling into Wally World Mega Strip Center ( daughter's eye appointment) a woman behind me was acting strange. She ended up driving like a psycho, cutting over another parking lane( kids all over the lot) only to cut diagonally in front of me and race into the parking spot I was aiming for.

Aha! Her blood red car bore a b/c and a '"Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you" God' bumper sticker she REALLY wanted me to see! Even if she killed someone to do it!

I ended up parking right at the Wally world entrance where many people saw and several came right up close to look at the pictures.

Show them the truth, People. They don't get to trademark Jesus.

Plus, no one will dare tailgate!

My son was so depressed he made me take them off. And with the war dead pics , it's probably best to keep this a separate issue.

But I see a few, and yard signs still up (K/E) and give the thumbs up every time! One guy had a "BUSH MUST GO" sticker next to his Kerry. Makes your day, doesn't it?

8. Nice!!!
Can you post a photo? I'd love to see that. I'm considering something similar, but haven't figured out what to do yet. How big is it?

If you post a photo, make sure your LP is covered.

Before the election, I had a B/C, praying Calvin, Christian Fish-festooned car come up behind me at a light. They pulled around me (light still red) into a crosswalk, cutting off a pedestrian, and the woman and her two kids not a day older than 10 yelled obscenities at me out the windows and gave me the one-fingered salute.

These people are not Christian. We aren't going to hurt those who are by calling it like it is.

19. You got it, Ally Cat
One little kid was glaring at first, but kids are smart. I just smiled like I would any kid and he smiled back. A sweet, sad smile.

The words I did in like 72 pt all caps, boldface. Fold to shape after printing as Landscape. Pictures around 5 by 7 so as not to obstruct, but I'm gonna make them bigger. I put:

PICTURE/JESUS WEEPS.../PICTURE/WHILE REPUKES.../PICTURE

and I drew the hand and used red colored pencil for blood. ( I was pretty steamed this morning).

You can come up with your own ideas. DUers are smart. Don't let them get away with this "we are morally superior" bullshit.

the OUTLAW DIVORCE! sticker are priceless. They jerk their heads around real quick. The south has the highest rate in the world ( To quote Tom Waits, I've been married so many times I've got rice marks on my forehead. That's the truth.)

I think a mass protest over the divorce rate, and what divorce does to children would blow their minds. And you can quote their Lord directly on that issue. Jesus never said anything about homosexuality OR abortion.

50. I have this odd feeling I'd be arrested in Iowa for that
I was walking downtown one night with two signs -- on my way home from a Women for Peace rally. One sign read "My brother died in Vietnam. Where was Bush?" the other had a coffin and read "Who dies for Bush's lies?" I watched as two patrol cars drove by very slowly. Hell, I waved and smiled at them because I thought they might be wondering if I had car trouble or something. When they came around the third time, they stopped and got out of the car to quiz me about my signs.

If those two signs put their under-roos in a twist, I can't imagine what photos of dead Iraqi children would do to them. (or, more to the point, what they'd do to me)

All these law enforcement folks have had their disaster/riot training and many are eager to sniff out a "terraist."
my town is VERY small and everyone knows me. And outside of town, I just don't worry. Tennessee cops overall are pretty cool. I went through a roadblock with my "Annoy a Republican: TELL THE TRUTH" sign and they were as kind as always.

But sorry for your troubles.

66. Thank you SOOOOO much
You can say anything you want

Above a picture:

"Does a Christan nation do THIS?"

"I desire mercy, not sacrifice." God

"Blessed are the peacemakers"

"Woe to you who are rich now."

"Whatever you do to the least of these, you do also to me." Jesus

"Did Jesus tell you to do this?"

There is a whole 'nother aspect, if wounded soldiers would consent to their photos being used. But I will save that for another thread.

Just think of the possibilities: "This Veteran is glad you got a tax break!"

Yesterday, I cringed when they had film footage of injured children, in Fallujah, on the news. And my Freeper mother had absolutely no sympathy. She told me that if I like them so much, I should go over to Iraq and take care of them. Hate is hate, whether it's terrorists or innocent children.;(

I'm sure your mother drives you insane.

But you know, what the hell happened to that whole friggin line about "We're going to help the Iraqi people. We're doing this for them as much as for ourselves."????????????????????????????????

Now, we don't give a fuck? We invaded their country on false grounds, killed 100,000+ of them, failed to secure the citizens but made sure to get to the oil ASAP, allowed our American corporations to make insane, absolutely SINFUL amounts of $$$$$$$$ in the deal, and they are supposed to just take it?

It hurts that some men and women are this coldhearted. Jesus loves every child, if the bible is at all truthful. If it's a lie, then stop wrapping their murders into a convenient Christian package.
A lie is no reason to invade another country, unless you're down with the idea of your own nation being arbitrarily invaded.

No, not everyone will catch it. But they feel that lump of guilt. Evil people -unless severely mentally ill - always know they are evil. Karl Rove gloats over just how effectively evil he is. But there's a conscience in there. Somewhere. It's not up to us to change people. But we can tweak them into changing themselves sometimes. Don't fool yourself.

72. She sure does. Because she attends church, she considers herself
a Christian. And, because I don't, I'm some kind of heathen. The night before "shock and awe" began, someone on DU posted a photo of a little Iraqi boy concentrating very hard, trying to float a candle in the water, during a candlelight vigil. When I saw the first horrific bomb blasts, I cried for that child. I wondered how he was, if he was scared, or if he was even still alive.;(

I guess I blame the media in this. You're right, after all the other reasons for invading Iraq, WMDs, ties to al-Qaeda, participation in 9/11, melted away, the one that they still clung to was "helping the Iraqi people." So why isn't anybody in the media calling them on this last, desperate reason that they gave? Thousands are dead, and more are dying as I type this. They are being blown to kingdom come in this bloody assault on Fallujah.;(

51% of the Iraqi population is 15 and under, so the majority who are being killed in this terrible war are children. And it's not just that they are being shot and bombed, but they are being killed and maimed by picking up unexploded cluster bombs, unguarded equipment and weapons, made ill by the unsanitary conditions that are a result of this war, and don't get me started on the depleted uranium.:grr:

I don't think that there's hope for my mother. When I cringed at those first obscene photos to come out of Abu Ghraib, she walked in, took a look at the TV, and said "good." Everybody else that I know feels as you and I do. But I'll take your advice seriously, during the next Freeper encounter that I have. Maybe guilt is the way to make these people see reason. But I just wish that the damn media would start speaking up. "Liberal media,' my #$%$&!!:grr:

And, as far as alcohol is concerned, this does play a part, and I have given in to it, as well, just to cope, so you are truly prescient. But I am planning on moving, this month, which should help, but this is still always with you, as your relatives are, since you cannot pick them.:-(

Thanks so much for caring enough to post this. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it.:pals:

BTW, if you order books through the Animal Rescue Site, you provide a bowl of food for a homeless animal, for every dollar that you spend. B & N is one of their sponsors, so I will choose them. For me, all of whose animals are rescue, and who has friends working at this thankless task, this is important. Thanks, again.:-)

I'll order all my books through there now and tell my friends too. I have a really serious soft spot for the puppies and kitties. I encourage everyone to adopt from shelters and shun the puppy mills.

You are very welcome about the book. Good luck with your move. Sometimes distance can do miracles. I hope you can find a therapist in your new area that is thoughtful and wise. Don't get too down on yourself or think that you will turn into your mom just because you've had a nip o' the sauce now and then. You are taking control of your life and it's direction which would indicate to me at least that you are on a healthy path.

Godspeed to you.

97. Thanks so much, my friend
Both of my dogs, as well as my previous pets, have been rescue. So I recommend this site, which I click on, everyday, to provide food for homeless animals. My pets have been there, both dogs and cats. My Sara was minutes away from being gassed in Ohio, where she was found as a stray, and was transported by a kind of "underground railroad" of people, who brought them to various rescue groups in NY and VT, where they have tougher animal protection laws. My tiny dog belonged to a wealthy woman who died, and her estate never claimed either him, nor his biological sister. They were placed separately, which was a tragedy for him, since he looked to her as the leader. When I adopted him, he immediately bonded with my cocker spaniel, as the sister who he lost, but I lost her a year ago, despite extraordinary veterinary measures. We haven't had an easy time.;(

This kind of encouragement is the thing that keeps me going. I spent last weekend at my house, and didn't drink at all, but had to go home to finally take a shower, and my bigger dog was more then ready to go, since she just can't spend all her time as a "couch potato," like my little guy. He's okay with his, but she is an active dog. I have to solve this, while keeping my sanity. Thanks so much for your advice and support. I need to make this a permanent solution for all of us.:pals:

I know it upsets me to see these little children who don't have a choice about what is happening to their country.

The little children who don't understand why the Americans are bombing their country.

The little children who will grow up for the rest of their lives with the fact that they may not have a mother or a father, a hand to eat with or a leg to stand on.

They did not plan on having to wake up for the rest of their lives hating Americans because of "our" leaders greed for oil, power, and their war profiteering.

They did not ask to be liberated.

I have a hard time viewing all the tragic pics of Iraqi civilians, but I just felt like the people who don't have any idea of what is really happening over there should be confronted with the truth.

91. OK...I'm going to be a little contrary here....
(which wouldn't surprise anyone who knows me..;-) ), but my concern with the very graphic photos is having them seen by small children who are unable to put them in context. As a parent, I dealt with that driving past Fundies holding gory photos of (supposedly) aborted fetuses. And if I wasn't already hostile toward the anti-choice protesters, that would have made me hostile.

I do like your idea, BuddyHolly'sGhost, and my van is plastered with bumperstickers and other little messages. However, I would encourage everyone to give some thought to who will be seeing these images. Plenty of those photos clearly relate the pain, suffering and injuries without showing brains falling out of a person's skull.

106. None of the photos I posted is this gruesome
for this reason. But I want children to ask their parents:

"Why is that baby in bandages?"

I want dialogue. I want to force parents who voted for * to tell their children the truth. Maybe they won't. Maybe they will drive past really quickly. or hold back from getting close.

Reality sucks. My concern is for our troops, first, being the mom of a Vet, and for the children, because the Jesus I learned about as a child would be weeping over the carnage in Iraq.

Children deserve the truth. And every chance we can give them. I'll take the chance. My sorrow over what my government is doing is too overwhelming.

108. I had a feeling that you would be sensitive...
to the issue of young children seeing the most gory photos and being frightened without being able to understand.

I really was being a devil's advocate for readers who may not be tuned in to the fact that there isn't much to be gained by completely freaking out little kids. Even if a parent took the time to explain the things we are hoping they would explain (and how many fundies and freepers are going to do that?), to a four, five or six year old it would be meaningless.

And, as I posted, I certainly resent the fundies shoving their gory "fetus" photos in my kid's faces. There were enough photos in that group that showed the pain and horror without being graphic enough to traumatize a little kid.

112. My intentions are not meant for the children
My intentions are strictly for their parents.

And again like I've said in previous post my intentions are for the windshields of cars parked at churches.

Sometimes we cannot avoid things that children may or may not see. But if they are exposed to the realities that we as adults have to face, then perhaps we can shape the way they will perceive the world in which they live.

I find it hard to look at the reality of what our government is doing in our names, but face it we must.

I hope that I don't offend anyone here. As I do understand your concerns!

113. Yes, my kids saw the semi with the giant bloody fetus photo...
on the side. My youngest just turned ten, so I don't think any of them were traumatized. But, don't you just love the irony of those bozos being so concerned with the innocent unborn, yet don't see a problem with slapping preschoolers in the face with bloody pictures. They are the ones always screaming about how parents should have control over what their children are exposed to, yet they take it upon themselves to decide what other people's kids should see.

BTW, as far as the fetus photos go...one could blow up a photo of any kind of surgery and claim it's a photo of an abortion. We also need to be sure that any photos of Iraqi tragedies that we display are not easily questioned as to authenticity. Swamp Rat's choice higher up in this thread is a great one for that reason.

118. Yes, perhaps we should counter with trucks like these?
We could pluck a few of their own bible versus and plaster semi-trucks all around Merika!

Warning horrid/graphic content.

These people never cease to amaze.

124. It actually would be a great idea to this...
Not only does one counter their message with a message of our own, its taking a page out of their book....Amazingly, it would be fairly simple to set up a 501 non-profit, tax exempt (as they are) non-partisan organization that could be funded by "donations" (hey - if every DUer gave $20, that alone would be $1MM. Amazingly, one could even be "creating jobs" while doing this because of the Drivers one would hire to drive these trucks....These people, especially people on DU who need some part-time work because of being laid off could be paid for their time...

We need to start "thinking" strategically like the Neo-cons and fundies...fight fire with fire....

127. my gawd. I have never seen those trucks. I cannot believe
that shit.

I skimmed through that site and the one picture title: "Do this to your baby and this may happens to your breast" is outrageous. There is NO scientific evidence to back the claim that abortion causes breast cancer.

How do they get away with this crap?!! I am fuming!!!!!!

128. When I was in Ohio on election day & saw one of these trucks driving next
to us, my friend and I couldn't believe it....it not only made us sick, it made us angry that sick people could drive a truck around showing something like that...it qualifies as corpse abuse as far as I'm concerned....

And to your point, they clearly make statements that are not substantiated but also who is to say that these pictures were in fact of aborted fetuses, not fetuses that died in utero and had to be expelled...

I looked on that site and it looks like there are cases against these people but it does go to show you what we are up against and to what ends they will go....that's why I think we need to start countering them with our own "shock and awe" campaign...

120. "Bush Sucks"

I put a "Bush Sucks" sign on my truck just above my
Kerry/Edwards sticker. I seem to get a lot less tailgaters now.
