Whitehouse Stategy now clear
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 11:31 AM by democrat in Tallahas
At Noon EST all cable news shows are carrying the same basic spin.

Led by a news release by Condaleeza Rice, it is clear that the new strategy is to admit the Niger Uranium story was bogus but to blame the story on the CIA.

George Tenet, hold-over from the Clinton administration is the apparent target.

1. Tenant has been a fool all along
He wanted to sit at the table with the big boys at Camp David and sold his soul to get there. If he is hung out to dry it is what he deserves, but let’s hope that Chimp can’t protect himself with this maneuver.

5. Regardless of who appointed Tenet -
If * and company think the CIA is going to carry their water on this issue, they're sadly mistaken. Wasn't Poppy Bush director of the CIA?

The shit is going to hit the fan real soon.

8. I Just Had a Nasty Thought
I wonder how much of this WH pressure is an attempt to get Tenet to step down, so they can replace him with their own 100%, pre-approved stooge?

10. This is all a deck-clearing exercise, I think
Remember the uproar about the FBI whistleblowers and "Bush Knew"? Remember how it all suddenly just evaporated? My guess is that this is another one of those deals. Bush is out of the country and the pundits will yadda-yadda on about if for another week or so and the whole thing will just fade away. If the issue comes up in campaign '04, the response will be, "That's old news."

11. I don't think so.
The FBI whistleblower story was a tempest in a teapot compared to this, in terms of media coverage. There are two very high-level believable witnesses who are saying Bush lied, and Congress seems to be getting into a real uproar about it, as are several of the Dem candidates. It's not going to blow over when important voices are calling for an investigation.

12. Agreed, esp with the Iraq situation so far
If somehow thing suddenly turn around and look up in Iraq, it will all be forgotten. But as long as they don't, and we are spending 4 billion a month over there, it will just get worse.
