since Generalissimo Boosh declared an end to "major combat operations" a long, long time ago and the administration was quite specific in their terms.

NEAR FALLUJAH, Iraq - Thousands of U.S. troops, backed by armor and a stunning air barrage, attacked the toughest strongholds of Sunni insurgents in Fallujah on Monday, launching a long-awaited offensive aimed at putting an end to guerrilla control of the Sunni Muslim city.

Q: But the President didn't know that this would be interpreted throughout the world that we had -- that the combat mission was over, basically?

MR. McCLELLAN: The major combat operations were over. That's what the President said in his remarks. But he also went on to say that there are difficulties that remain and dangers that continue to exist, and that it's important that we stay the course and finish our work and continue to work with the Iraqi people to help them realize a better future. And that's exactly what we are doing right now.

I'm just posting this here to remind everyone that when "Flightdeck Barbie" was taken to task on his "Mission Accomplished" banner they backpedalled by claiming what he meant was "major combat operations were over" and there are many, many damning quotes emphasizing this in every medium taken from the very high (the preznit himself) to the very low (a toss-up...Scotty Mclellan or Dandroid Senor?).
Therefore, I feel quite confident in saying 4,000 U.S. troops, backed by armor and preceded by a withering air attack is just another dust-up, boys...another speed bump on the way to Independence Day picnics in the park in Iraq.

We now return you to your regular programming...

...Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said victory in Fallujah would not end the insurgency or eliminate the need for more fierce combat in coming weeks.

MR. RUSSERT: As we showed in our lead-in, on May 1st, the president said, “Mission accomplished in Iraq.” Since that time, 135 American soldiers have been killed. Was that too premature of an announcement?

GEN. MYERS: I think what the president said was major combat operations are over. And he also went on to say there’s a lot of hard work left to do both in Afghanistan and Iraq. So I think he was talking about the major combat operations.

MR. RUSSERT: We will not need any more major significant combat operations in Iraq?

GEN. MYERS: Well, the way we look at it now, no.
