2. Good gods no.
I'm gay, moving to a red state (or even some "swing" states, thanks Ohio) would amount to a death sentence right now.

Fuck the federal government. If I stay in this country, it's going to be to try to turn California into a goddamn Socialist worker's paradise.

3. I did--two years ago--and it didn't help (FL)
Even though my county has been light blue in 2000 and 2004.
We need to find a way to communicate with the Reds, and not come off like 'City Slickers'. That's the divisive tool that Rove uses so effectively.

4. screw the red states.......
they tend to have no culture or soul. nothing there but freeper filth. the best thing is for all dems to move out of red states and into blue states. this will drop the electoral values of shit holes like texas, OK, kansas, virginia, west virginia, indiana, etc and increase the values in places like illinois, michigan, new york california.

8. Thought this was the non-finger-pointing forum. . . .
I live in a "red" state. NC.

Culture? Many great writers live in MY TOWN! Lee Smith, Allen Gurganus, Michael Malone, and Annie Dillard. . . .

Soul? I belong the greatest liberal Episcopalian church you could possibly imagine. And for the other kind of soul, there's a great blues club down the street.

---------

The problem is that everybody (including US) is labeling everybody else. I think one of the real cultural divides is actually urban vs. rural. The more urban sections of "red" states are blue. AND the more rural parts of "blue" states are RED.

We need to find ways to reach across those cultural divides, not make them wider.

my 2 cents

and I'm outta here. Even the "help and support" is bringing me down right now.

12. I am exiled in a Red State.
I can't speak about NC, but I can speak about TN. I have been here 5 years now, and sometime ago I gave up on trying to assimilate into this Southern society.

I'm originally from Michigan. I can't believe how naive I was about the Southern bias toward anyone from "The North", and "The North" is anyplace that isn't South. I've traveled all over the US, a far amount of Ontario, and a little bit of Europe. This (TN) is without a doubt the most mean-spirited area I have encountered. People just seem to thrive on hate, all the while expounding their Christian faith.

It's beautiful here, sunshine and gorgeous water-ways abound, breath-taking sunrises and sunsets are common place, and I will never, just never understand what the heck they are all so angry about. Maybe, it's hate driven by fear. I just don't know.

I AM a card-carrying LIBERAL Northern/Yankee (insert whatever pejorative turns your crank) Democrat, and I shall ever be!

I can't recall the last time I felt this hollow and hopeless.

6. I'd like to live with other liberals
Maybe that's what the fantasy about moving to Canada is all about. A paradise away from all this madness.

7. Why would we want to do that?
invalidate our votes by being absorbed into Republican majorities?

No, we should flood blue states to inflate their electoral votes, and swing states to shift their alignment.

11. that's what i said too
i agree that that would be the best way to win electoral elections.

for example, you're gonna have more luck enticing urban pioneers to move from indiana to illinois (chicago area) than the other way around.
