Lessons from Chapterhouse: Dune on Politics
If one is losing against a tide of enemies too large to counter, then you must use the enemy's weaknesses to your full advantage, even if that means making hard changes in the structures and processes one has grown to rely upon.

To effectively counter Bush and the Republican Hate Machine, we must truly look upon the next four years as all out Political Warfare. Nothing can be sacred except our commitment to the ideals of the Constitution and the Founding Fathers. Past loyalties cannot take precedent over political reality. The DNC Chairman has failed and must be removed. Adoration of Clinton is fine and dandy but belief that the Clinton's can pull the party out of this morass is foolish. The one thing Clinton showed us is even great people are at heart, just people and not superhuman.

We are buoyed by the fact that currently the RNC is governed by a Cult of Personality. This will, I predict, result in a purging of the ranks of the moderate Republicans. Lincoln Chaffee and Snowe of Maine will be pressured even harder to stay in line with the RNC agenda.

We must look for opportunities to work with the disgruntled of the RNC as a way to keep our agenda active and to show them that perhaps the lockstep approach of the RNC is too constrictive for a civil democracy.

If you are unfamiliar with the events in the book Chapterhouse: Dune, essentially a religious order is under attack and facing extinction by another order that has vastly superior numbers. The first order defeats the attacking order by coopting their bureaucratic structure and adapting themselves to the ways of the new order.

Adaptation is the key to survival. We may want to keep that written in a book somewhere because the Republicans are going to deny Evolution in the next four years and bring about a Dim Age.
