European Union vs. the USA
This is just a feeling I have (I haven't really thought it through) but does anyone else feel that under a second Bush term the EU will move in the direction of pushing America aside on the world stage? We all know that the world is watching this election and I can just see people in Europe saying after a Bush win, "OK, that's it. We have to make our way without the US."

2. Exactally, we are seperating outselves from the world
As everyone else moves foward we are trying to move backwards. The right-wingnuts have this vision of a premodern america stuck somewhere in the 19th century.

4. Pushing us aside? No. Going their own way? Definitely.
This has been in the cards for some time. Europe is actually a greater economic engine than the US. Plus, it is mortified by many of the reactionary social policies embraced by large swaths of the US electorate.

I think you also need to look at the Pacific Rim. We will see Japan, South Korea and China start to drift from the US as well.

In the words of historian and demographer Emmanuel Todd from his outstanding book, After the Empire, "The rest of the world is discovering that it can get along without America at the time that America is discovering that it cannot get along without the rest of the world."

5. "Going their own way" is probably a better way...
...of putting it. But you seem to understand what I mean.
