I fear that for progressives recovering our dreams and our future is further away now and much harder than it looked even the day before yesterday, but we have one advantage. As the out-of-power, marginalized political power, we can rightly point out that we had no responsibility for what is happening to the country now and what will happen to the USA during the next four years.
The foreign disasters that are even now forming in Iraq, the consequences for Republican policies look likely to occur during the republicans' time in power.
Even during times of tyranny, word does get around. One of the reasons the Communist Party fell in the Soviet Union was the Afghan war, as well as the bankrupting cost of the Cold War buildup, and the gap between a rosy Communist future and the grim reality. Even with the assistance of the likes of Rupert Murdoch and Richard Ailes, even the boob-oisie's grandchildren can't help but notice that life is getting worse and more impoverished under the Banana Republicans than it was under Bill Clinton's watch.
We have built some of the tools for an eventual comeback. If we can survive the next four to eight years, we can organize and be ready when even the heedless and the apathetic realize what we progressives already know--that the so-called "conservatives" are already discredited.
