I am in no way shocked...
...I had no reason to believe this election would turn out any differently. If anything, the hard-core right has become more emboldened over the last four years. Look at the election of that DeMint character in South Carolina, for Chrissake! The man is a certified neolithic whack job, along with a few of his newly elected GOP Hill-mates. You think the last four years were somethin'? You ain't seen nothin' yet!

This also puts us in deep with our international neighbors. Before the past week, at least the more enlightened citizens of the world, those that Shrub has gone out of his way to enrage, could chalk it all up to ignorance. "We don't like what Bush has done, but Bush is not the same as the people of the United States. We know this. They had no idea he was going to be like this. Besides, he stole the election anyway."

Well, that excuse is gone now. America has spoken its mandate for the xenophobic, vitriolic, bellicose fools who lead us, and the globe, down the most rapid path to self-destruction. Now, there is no reason not to blame the citizenry of the U.S. as much as anyone else.

We have proven ourselves a nation of troglodytes. Of course, it's not news to anyone from the American South. We've seen this particular brand of "patriotism" all of our lives and the observant among us have watched it creeping like a plague across the rest of the nation. America now embodies the worst aspects of the South and makes no bones about it.

4. Mostly, yes.
The international community will be scratching their heads if shrub wins. They will not understand. However, the other countries will cooperate with shrub even more than before, since it will mean he has a mandate from the people and it means economic and military might. A lesson for Dems: To win, you MUST have a candidate from the south. The repugs have put together a winning combination: Idiots, Evangelicals, Wealthy, Corporation worshipers, and Warmongers/Macho. They make up about 52%. We lose.

6. Just having...
...a candidate from the South doesn't mean jack anymore. How many Southern states did Clinton win in '96? Both he and Jimmy Carter are hated with a deep passion here. It's not a matter of geography anymore. You win by being the ugliest of "ugly Americans" possible.

I've seen a lot of presidential elections and have never been this despondent after one. I've never, never, never seen a candidate with this much baggage, with this much going against him, with this large of a downside, with this poor of a track record do something like this.

And I can't summon anymore pity for the populace of this land. We deserve whatever befalls us for something like this.

5. I've known ...for quite some time
that Bush was going to win tonight. I just didn't want to be a part-downer. It was nice seeing my fellow/sister Du'ers happy for the Future...
