'Fahrenheit' DVD Beating 'The Passion' in Sales
'Fahrenheit' DVD Beating 'The Passion' in Sales

Everyone's looking for an indicator in the presidential election, something besides the conventional polls. So here's one more bit of information: Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" is way ahead of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" on the DVD bestseller list.

Moore, of course, is an outspoken supporter of Sen. John Kerry, while Gibson is firmly pro-President George W. Bush.
Gibson, in fact, had a public tiff last week with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger when the latter came out in support of stem-cell research.

Could Moore and Gibson — with the two most controversial films of 2004 — be weather vanes for tomorrow's voting?

On Amazon.com, "Fahrenheit" is holding steady at No. 8, while 'The Passion' is well below it at No. 38. Just ahead of 'The Passion' are the Marx Brothers, "Elf" and "Dawn of the Dead."

13. Hmm.
Maybe because it's secret evidence that most of America is still sane.

2. I still wonder why people get the idea they are mutually exclusive films..
...as if some people couldn't think both were crap or people couldn't like both.

It's not like they are two films with similar subjects.

3. Because too many of US
yes US -- want to be down on Christians and UP on Moore. Beats me why. And you are right -- one has naught to do with the other. GMAB!

6. Well, to be completely honest....
..I am kinda down on a good percentage of Christianity that seems believes my sexual orientation is a reason to shit on me and me deny me equality (I also realize there are some good sects of Christianity as well, but they are neither as populace or as vocal) and kinda up on Moore's film, but I think my position is understandable. I certainly don't think they are polar opposites.

9. Ya know....
I have recently FELT just a tiny bit of what you may feel... yes... IF you are speaking of sexual orientation... I never say a thing about that because that is not MY business nor my lifestyle, but it is YOUR (or their - gays) business... BUT, because I am so anti-Bush, some NUTCASE started calling me GAY a few weeks ago and others joined in with him against me... and wow, it got so CRUEL and UGLY that I just let em have the thread and went my own way. I mean they attacked and even created pages with my name and e-mail address on them... I had to change it.
I am a Christian, but I MUST apologize for my "kind", I guess. When did cruelty and lies become a Godly trait?

12. Well, I daresay they weren't really your "kind"....
I think you make some good points, but I think the strongest argument anyone could ever make for the wall of separation between church and state is how the republican party has allowed a certain insidious and intolerant form of Christianity to mold the party.

14. It is repellant
tto many of us in the church world, trust me. We are not ALL fooled by this hypocritical regime. Bush does not resemble anything CLOSE to what the Bible speaks of as a Christian.

15. "Our side" does that, also! Some DUer looked up my addy,
and sent me an ugly piece of snail hate mail.

Someone in Georgia.

Isn't that just sweet?

You see, there is hate everywhere now. We're incubating it here in the US.

Sorry you had that experience.

And, sorry that I did, too.

Ugliness just doesn't make life go any better.

Kanary, with a finger to those who would harrass like this.....

16. It really is an ugliness
that is unbecoming of REAL Americans... let alone professing Christians. I love the Lord, BUT I have come to take my fellow "Christians" with a grain of salt now and again. I mean zealousness against sin (as they see it) is one thing, but Jesus only advocated meanness ONE time... and that dealt with using His temple for greediness (money oriented).
Such cruel behavior does NOT speak of the Saviour I know.

4. I think all the people that wanted to see "The Passion"...
saw it when it came to the theaters. Either because they wanted to or they were told to by their religious leaders. It seems only they were terribly interested, given these rental numbers.

11. I got mine
from a friend of my daughter who knew how to download movies... so I had it about a month before it hit the DVD screens. I love the movie; but ya know, one time viewing is enough... it stabs the heart.

8. Comparing Apples and Oranges
The Passion was released in early September, F911 was just released. For a more apples to apples comparison, the opening day sales of F911 was 2 million to the Passion's 4 million.

But really, such comparison's are silly since they're different genres. It's enough to say that both blew out the competition in their fields (documentary and foreign language film).
