Congratulate Kansas City on its new Domestic Partner Registry f
phone 816-513-3500; fax 816-513-3518

This was Resolution 30917 for city employees sponsored by Mayor Barnes and Councilman Alvin Brooks which passed Thursday.

There were quite a few people who left the chamber pretty pissed off after the vote. Even though you are probably not a constituent, the Council would benefit from hearing from you.

Text of my letter to the KC Star this weekend follows:

In sponsoring and supporting the success of Kansas City’s Domestic Partner Registry, Mayor Barnes, Councilman Brooks and the K.C. City Council are to be commended on their understanding of the true purposes of government. Managing the mundane logistics of what we need in order to function as a society doesn’t necessarily have all of the buzz of leading a crusade for one cause or another, but the equity it allows IS the life-blood of a society in which all of us have the opportunity to find our own way to the truth. It is with some sadness, though, that I see the pain of those who opposed the registry, for in the final analysis, if the truth about right and wrong sexuality, or anything else for that matter, is ever to be learned in its Totality by each person, it must be encountered as a free people who live honestly with the real consequences of who and what we are without the confusion and anger manufactured by the poison of defacto discrimination.
