Just saw an interview of Walter Cronkite on The History Channel. This guy is amazing, still going, alert, and devestatingly smart at 90 plus years!
I remember sometimes watching him on the nightly news back when you could TRUST a network news anchor. They researched a story and remained impartial no matter what their personal beliefs so they could report the NEWS not their opinions. He talked about that, and how he had to suppress his own leanings and work on presenting an acurate and fair story. He broke with that only once, with the blessing of his boss, when he did a report on Vietnam and how the US had to get out of there. He discussed the similarities between the Iraq war to Vietnam and why we need to get out of there too. TV journalism at its best! He is a liberal and was proud to say so, but was quick to point out that liberal doesn't mean leftist. EVERY network news anchor and reporter could learn a hell of a lot from this guy.
When we lose him, we will have lost one of the last links to true television journalism, dare I say the golden age of TV journalism?
Thank you Walter for serving the American people so faithfully for so long!
