Vermont Progressive Party
I have been reading about this party for some time now and I am very excited a formidble party on the Left seems to be forming there. I think the Green party just comes off as too wacky in some ways for more than 5-10% of Americans to ever vote for. I mean there are exceptions like Gonzalez in San Fran and Jill Stein in Mass. but for the most part they are out there, not particularly on policy but in how they present themselves. I would love to see other viable third parties or movements on the left pop up in other states. I realize there are many good Democrats, I just happen to think much of the party leadership has been bought out. I also think having more than 2 political parties enhances our democracy. Is there anything like the Progressive Party happening elsewhere?

I agree
and a 4th and 5th party :) everyone needs to voice their opinions! I have always been a Democrat but will consider voting Green this year at the local level and I am not a dogmatic Dem voter. I am a member of Democratic Socialists of America, I will definately vote Kerry and support Dems at the national level until we can get more choices. I wish we could get more campaign finance reform AND IRV voting passed.

2. Seems to be indigenous to the New England states from what I've seen.
No such luck in Ohio, where it's all GOP at the state level, and Democratic machines more or less operating each of the Big 8 cities. The Greens in Ohio are little more than a punchline, and there's little else at work to challenge the status quo. We are in dire need of some fresh new blood. Even a charismatic Howard Dean type spearheading such a movement here could work wonders for this state.
