I stopped my company from attaching a Pro-Bush memo to our paychecks!

Some may recall that earlier this week I posted in regards to the fact that my bosses were planning to write and distribute pure propaganda from the GOP and give it to all employees. It consisted of talking points about small businesses and how Kerry will tax them so much that they will have to lay off people and we'd not have health care etc. They were trying to make it seem like it was in the employees best interest (but of course it's in the bosses') to vote Bush.

After freaking out royally I searched the internet for whether this was legal. Turns out IT's not! The law is that this type of explicit support and advocacy is illegal when given to rank and file (non-salaried employees). I found the actual election law and several articles stating how this is illegal and brought it to HR's attention. Today I found out that they just scrapped the whole thing since they could only give it to a few employees and not the working class people that they were trying to manipulate. So Yippee!

I actually did something for the good guys. And you know what? It feels pretty damn good. Power to the people! :grouphug:

More or less if they are using corporate funds they can only send non-partisan, get out the vote stuff, to rank and file employees. Otherwise it's illegal corporate electioneering.
I did all of the research t wok and today to celebrate I donated to Kerry while still at work on their computer. Hah!

I remember a case in my hometown where the company sent a note home with the workers, which basically threatened their jobs if they didn't support the Free Trade Agreement. And this happened a couple of days before the election, so the union had no time to debunk the propaganda. Good for you, Marnieworld -- you might have saved quite a lot of undecided votes -- and better yet, stood up for nonpartisan democracy.
