GOTV: suggestions to encourage full participation
These thoughts have occurred to me, and I hope that others will add to them:

1. When talking with, encouraging first time voters, try to have a sample ballot on hand, so they know what to expect, and know what all the issues are on the ballot. It can be *very* intimidating for seasoned voters, let alone first timers!

2. If you know the method of voting in that precinct, try to describe it if the voter seems interested or hesitant. Let them know, step by step, what to expect. (For instance, in CO, we need to have our I.D. at hand, and ready to fill out the voter card.) Just knowing in advance reduces anxiety.

3. As much as possible, let them know how the voting has been in that precinct in past years..... What hours are most crowded?, etc.

The more we can help new voters feel at ease, the more they will be likely to physically get there and go though with it.

Kanary, awaiting more suggestions......

1. These suggestions are great for people who are intimidated...
...by large crowds and the voting process itself.

It is estimated that between 15% and 20% of any given population qualify as highly sensitive, which means their nervous systems are more easily overaroused. Considering the importance of this election, overarousal among this group of people may be at an all-time high.

In the past, polls have been practically empty in this county at any given time. I wonder if that will hold true for this election? Somehow, I doubt it.
