Giant Douche in a Landslide!
For those of you who watch South Park, last night's effort was great -the children had to vote on a new mascot - between a Giant Douche & a Turd Sandwich. PETA had protested the South Park Cows as demeaning to animals.

They had mascot debates, and it was quite clear that Kerry was the Giant Douche, and Bush the Turd Sandwich. They reproduced the debate set exactly, down to Jim Lehrer.

After he was banished from South Park for refusing to choose, a PETA member told Stan it was ALWAYS a choice between a Giant Douche & a Turd Sandwich.

Giant Douche won in a landslide.

Cynical, but Giant Douche was clearly the better choice.

1. Yep I caught that too, but was remember trying to
figure out how I was going to post that I was excited that my candidtate, the giant douche, won. I pictured Trey Parker laughing about that.

2. If the giant douche was Kerry
What exactly made that apparent? I mean, besides the fact that it won in a landslide? Did the giant douche just exist, or was it nominated? Obviously, Kerry is the last person I would describe as a douche. I'm interested to know why Trey and Matt think Kerry is a douche.

3. The Giant Douche took itself very seriously...

where the Turd Sandwitch was pretty much an idiot. They have in the past had shows in which they referred to people who take themselves too seriously as giant douches.

Matt and Trey made Kerry a Giant Douche because on South Park they usually put a great deal of effort into being fair and making sure they insult both sides equally.

That's one of the reasons that I have continued to enjoy South Park. They might not be taking a stand, but at least they don't ignore the issues.

4. That was a great episode.
I don't think it was quite as good as the Preschool Class President Election episode from 2000, though. That episode was brilliant. "Flora" can't make up her mind, and Rosie O'Donnell gets eaten by a giant Trapper Keeper. Nothing says "astute social commentary" like a giant Trapper Keeper.

5. And Puff Daddy's song was right on target
"Vote or Die, Motherfucker"!

Also, the Thunderdome sample - took me a second or two to place it, but also excellent.

6. Pardon my ignorance here
but when Stan was being banished and everyone was ripping his coat and spitting on him were they doing a parady of a movie? If so, what one?

7. Ugh ..."I'm too cool to vote" - yeah, let's celebrate that!
Sorry guys, these hipsters are stuck in 2000 when "they were all the same". Some saw the consequence of their idiotic attitude since, but not these guys.
Satire only works from the powerless to powerful. try it the other way around and it's obscene.

8. bush & kerry are not the same
but they both went to the same college

they both are in skull & bones

they both come from east coast money

they are both MOR pols to the bone.

so you can see why some people might say that in their bitter cynical hearts that despair for the future of this country.

face it: some voters are going to embrace kerry because he sucks less (well, MUCH less) than bush. they are disaffected non-voters, former naderites, deaniacs, socialists, anarchists, etc. Kerry MUST have their votes.

i hear your complaint, and it isn't 2000 (it wasn't 2000 in 2000),but remember; Giant Douche wins in a landslide. There's as close to advocacy as you'll get from stone & parker.
