31. we've turned into our parents
the children of the 60's are more square now than their parents ever were.

when we were young, we could watch Monty Python and laugh at their bawdy humor. If it was airing new today, there would be those in our age group who would boycott, whine and complain about 'the children' seeing that kind of 'filth' on tv, instead of them handling their children and monitoring their viewing habits and not infringing upon my right to view what I want to watch.

32. Interesting times. Monty Python was "risque". SNL was cutting edge.
Shame is a most powerful force. It is the force that controls conservatives. They have the same urges we do, they often do the same things, except under cover of darkness. They are ashamed for feeling those feelings. Their inability to purge them makes them repress them further. This inability to reconcile leads to a need to control others in order to compensate.

I love monty python, that they were originated from cambridge

I wish they were still in business, as well as SCTV, the predecessor
to SNL that produced the original artistic impulse.

I never gave up either, but I feel that we, as a generation, got a little too lost in the corporate jungle and renegged on some our civic responsibilities. Our strength and energy will only go so far, our children will have to fight for the rest.

75. I have and I stand by what I said.
Some of the greatest protesters in our history and in the worlds history didn't begin until late in life. Giving a damn and acting on it, isn't only for the young.
Saying that we got lost in our self interest is your opinion and I respect that, but while you were getting lost (only lumping you in because you state that you are of that generation), I was protesting against Reagen, I was working in the early days of earth first, so I take offense at being lumped in with that self interest, corporate absorbed group. And since that time I have continued to be active in questioning the motives our our elected officials.
Never ever stop questioning.

I - never - gave - up.

I fought with NYPIRG against Indian Point
I worked for John Anderson
I worked for Carter
I worked for Bill Bradley
...and others

We are in the situation that we find ourselves because we failed to prevent it. That does not mean that people did not make an effort, many did. Noone is being asked to stop working for the cause in which they believe.

18. it's certainly refreshing to see the younger generation getting their
own protest music. If I have to hear "Eve of Destruction" again I might have to hurt someone. It's also refreshing that Eminem's piece is so angry. Harnessing that anger will generate a whole lot of postive energy. I also like the message of the video, his anarchy is voting.

74. excellent!
The kids I come into contact with are more apathetic than brain washed. But I have found if I take the time to talk to them, try to identify the issues that are important to them and then connect that to the political process, they get involved. One is a first time voter, but after F9/11 he has his own Kerry sticker, and last I heard was researching our local non-partisan judges races. :-)

27. That's the other side of the equation.
What I used to get at the grocery for $50 now costs $60. and that ain't no Chateaubriand or wild Salmon sitting in the cart, either. So much for healthy eating, now I'll have to go back to eating empty calorie "White Trash" food, just like during the Ray-Gun Era.

Fuel increases, everything increases. even your local sewer bill. It takes electricity to pump that shit through the plant, doesn't it?

Food goes up, because it cost more to run the tractor and combines and trucks and processing equipment and ships that bring your Kiwi's from New Zeddland, and....

And your telephone and cable bills go up simply because they don't wanna feel left out.

Let the president answer a higher anarchy
Strap him with an AK-47, let him go, fight his own war
Let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil
No more psychological warfare, to trick us to thinking that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country, we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes its all lies
The stars and stripes, they've been swiped, washed out and wiped
And replaced with his own face, Mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you know why,
Cause I told you to fight.

55. I want a John Kerry barn coat instead!
But, alas I cannot afford either one. My car insurance bill went up $80.00 and I have never made a claim nor gotten a ticket.

61. I would if I had money
I hate Eminem and rap in general (I'm into the goth thing myself) but that video was some powerful stuff. I have to give him respect for that.

Too bad I'm broke. I think everyone should wear those sweatshirts when they go vote.

76. Grassroots efforts will rock the vote. Pass to friends: HELPKERRYWIN.com
The Republican machine is about winning by any means in order to line constituents' pockets and advance a horrific backwards agenda. The democratic/independent energy is about service to us, the public. Our only chance is to outnumber them in phone calls, etc. Lots of easy, quick stuff to do (and other important links and humor) are at

www.helpkerrywin.com.

Pass it on to everyone you know who supports Kerry because it's all about word of mouth getting out the vote!

I'm in my 40s and it's going to be 80-plus degrees to boot, so I just think it would look silly instead of making a statement.

82. I'm old. I can't stand rap. BUTTT..
Thanks to DU, I went to MTV site and voted for them to show the video.

To my taste, I did not care for the music style at all, but the message was important and young people need to see it and get their minds working that they MUST vote NOW for THEIR futures.

83. I got my black "hoodie" yesterday
Watched the Mosh video at least 4 times yesterday. The little army guy who was sent back to Iraq REALLY got to me!! I'm going to be 48 on November 2nd and I want a new president for my birthday! I'm wearing my "hoodie" (what a funny name for a sweatshirt) every day until Kerry is our new President! :)
