Most of the polls were saying Gore was losing by 5 to 8 points
That morning I had voted for Gore, but had already resigned myself to his defeat. Then the evening came, and the 5 to 8 point lead that they were all screaming about was gone.
I learned a very important lesson that day:
1. How powerful the media is, and why it is so important that it is independent
2. Grass root efforts do make a difference. When Zogby called it for Gore, it was dumb luck. He didn't count on the last minute turnout that occurred in Florida, no one did.
The last minute turnout we had in 2000, will be at least double in 2004. No one can estimate this in a poll. They didn't do it in 2000, and they won't do it this time either.
Here are the assumptions that that we are being fed by the media:
1. 18-24 year olds do not vote. College students do NOT vote 2. Poor people do not vote 3. People do not care about the Supreme Court 4. Women do not care about choice 5. People do not care about stem cell research 6. People do not care about the environment 7. The economy is doing well 8. Newly registered voters will not affect this election
We are far better off in the polls today than Gore was in 2000. AS LONG AS WE HAVE LARGE TURNOUT WE WIN!
This is NOT wishful thinking, it is reality
