Where do you think we would be today?
I know that the internet and PCs and all that have only largely hit the masses in the 90s, but just supposing all of that were moved back ten years, and we saw GB I elected in 1988, despite the fact that he is/was as crooked as his son? Do you think we would have been able to have the momentum we have now as a voting population?
I remember all the shit that Poppy pulled against Mike Dukakis. I liked Dukakis a lot, and even met him when he was governor of Mass. He had spunk, he had a lot of good ideas, a strong feeling of empathy for people and was not only intelligent but very, very wise. If I had had a group like DU then, my foray into politics would have come a lot sooner, because I would have been able to feel more in control about the things that would have come out, joined in a lot more conversations, and learned a lot more at an earlier time. Since 1988 I have felt so mad, so angry at the conservative leaders, but felt gratified when Clinton came onto the scene and proceeded to win. I would certainly have found myself working more steadfastly to support Clinton, because more avenues of information and advocacy might have been available. In some ways, I feel somewhat cheated because we didn't have this kind of coalition until more recently.
