Polls show Bush supporters living in a world of fantasy

Even if they don't like to say it out loud, lots of Democrats think that George Bush's supporters are a horde of ignoramuses. Now comes evidence that they're right! A remarkable new report titled "The Separate Realities of Bush and Kerry Supporters" from PIPA, the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland, suggests that rank and file Republicans are more benighted than even the most supercilious coastal elitist would imagine.

Analyzing data from a series of nationwide polls, the report finds that a majority of Bush supporters believe things about the world that are objectively untrue, while the majority of Kerry supporters dwell in the reality-based community. For example, Bush backers largely think that the president and his policies are popular internationally. Seventy-five percent believe that Iraq was providing "substantial" aid to al-Qaida, and 63 percent say clear evidence of this has been found. That, of course, would be news even to Donald Rumsfeld, who earlier this month told the Council On Foreign Relations, "To my knowledge, I have not seen any strong, hard evidence that links the two."

<snip>

Indeed, it says, "an overwhelming 82% perceive the Bush administration as saying that Iraq had WMD (63%) or a major WMD program (19%). Only 16% of Bush supporters perceive the administration as saying that Iraq had some limited activities, but not an active program (15%) or had nothing (1%). The pattern on al Qaeda is similar. Seventy-five percent of Bush supporters think the Bush administration is currently saying Iraq was providing substantial support to al Qaeda (56%) or even that it was directly involved in 9/11 (19%). Further, 55% of Bush supporters say it is their impression the Bush administration is currently saying the US has found clear evidence Saddam Hussein was working closely with al Qaeda (not saying clear evidence found: 37%)."

I can't post anymore. You should read this. Especially interesting are the paragraphs that say people think Bush is for labor and environmental protections, that Bush is popular around the world, that Bush worries about global warming. They're deluded.

1. How do we wake them up?
We don't get much help from the media in spreading the truth. I do what I can on a very small scale, trying to educate "idiot amerika" one dolt at a time. I even had to send my 11-year old to school with a list of talking points because she catches so much flak for supporting Kerry. The parents are vacuum-heads and the apples don't fall far from the tree, unfortunately.

3. Send the link to the study...
...to all the media contacts you can in the media blaster for your local area and on the National Media contact list. I've already sent it to about 60 or 70 people. If enough people hit them with it SOME of them will run with it.

That would be the beginning of the wake-up call.

19. Got that list handy, Sister?
My kid drew the short straw at school and has to be Kerry in their mock debate next week.
I know that she will wipe the floor with the Bush kid, but she's nervous. She's 13.
A note of good news: Kerry won the popular vote at her middleschool. Of course, the bush kids cried foul and demanded a recount, claiming voter fraud on the part of kerry kids.
The kids in her school in this swing state (MI) have accurately predicted the winning candidate in the last 8 elections.
Hang on to your hats kids, its gonna be a bumpy ride!

You think the media is liberal because right-wing idiots like drug addicted
Rush Limbaugh told you it is. Get a mind of your own.

And learn to use Spellcheck.

12. No we are not crazy. You are misinformed.
Fox News is a mouth piece for the whitehouse. The rest of the media is biased towards the almighty dollar and ratings. They simply sensationalize what they can even if its not newsworthy and/or repeat verbatim what each side says without any regards to whether what was said was true or not.

The little actual journalism that does occur gets buried under the vast amount of crap that they put out. If there is any bias in the media it is center to right center hardly liberal. If you think what the mainstream media reports on is liberally biased you would probably have a heart attack if you spent any length of time on a truly liberally biased site.

We see just how missinformed Bush supporters are everyday. They come and post outrageous statements on message boards every day without any facts to back them up. It usually takes 10 seconds to a few minutes depending on the topic to do a bit of research to confirm or more often than not disprove what they just posted. Its like they think we will do just as they do and not bother to actually research and crosscheck the actual data.

11. We Report: You Get It Wrong
Jim Lobe – Inter Press October 4, 2003

The more commercial television news you watch, the more wrong you are likely to be about key elements of the Iraq War and its aftermath, according to a major new study released in Washington on Thursday.

And the more you watch the Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox News channel, in particular, the more likely it is that your perceptions about the war are wrong, adds the report by the University of Maryland's Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA).

16. See, this is why Kerry is gonna be great
Time and again, Kerry voted against budget deficit increases that were slated to go toward the bloated military budget. Too bad the military couldn't have been shrunk even further, if it had, B*sh wouldn't have been able to invade Iraq!

14. The media is intentionally misleading the American people...
- They were the main cheerleaders behind the Iraq invasion...rarely if ever providing a forum for anti-war voices.

- The American media was also behind the push to illegally install Bush* into office and outright ignored election fraud in 2000.

- And now...they're working with the GOP to make sure the people think this is a 'close race' so it can be easily stolen and put Bush* in the position of looking like a victim.

Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 08:08 PM by booley
Did you know that the terrorists are hoping Kerry will win? well , niether did the terrorists last I heard. But that's what the republicans are trying to claim.

This is an e-mail I got from one...

"On Thursday, October 21, 2004, at 05:02 PM, Patriot Alert wrote:

For undecided voters (and anyone who thinks John Kerry is fit for
command):

Perhaps the most instructive question that can be asked regarding the
upcoming presidential election is this: Given the chance, would Saddam
Hussein, Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, Osama bin Laden, Kim Jong-Il, Mohammad
Khatami, Moammar al-Ghadafi and Hu Jingtao vote for A) George Bush, or
B) John Kerry? How would Jacques Chirac, Gerhard Schroeder and Kofi
Annan vote? If you answered "B," put a big shiny star by your name.

Now -- for whom (and with whom) are YOU voting?"

And my response:

"I don't have to guess who the terrorists would vote for.

Because they have already told us. And it ain't choice B.

The war in iraq alone has helped Al Queida recruit by leaps and bounds, given substance to their propaganda that the US is planning to colonize the Arab world and put the pressure off of the taliban.

As for the European leaders, they probably would choose Kerry. What sane leader would want to the world's remaining super power being run by an idiot and religouse zealot?

But thanks for reminding me of WHY the right has to be opposed. Your total inability to grasp reality makes you and the rest of the right unqualified to run a beanie baby stand at the mall, much less the government."

Yes, I know I shouldn't respond to idiots. But.what the hell is wrong with these people?

from the Bushies. I get so gut tired of the freepers and the right wingers, and Bush and his cabinet saying Bush enjoys the support of the majority of Americans. BS. Now that those groups are seeing he does not they are ready to secede from the nation!!! What do they think we've gone through for the last four years? They can say what they want about Bill Clinton but at the worst of times during his phony impeachment, he enjoyed a 76% approval rating.
