How do I pay for my meds if we flee to Canada?
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 09:57 PM by mitchtv
I would prefer Costa Rica, and the only thing thatstops us is medical care, mainly drugs, which for me as a transplantee, are non stop and expensive. Weare not poor, but have pre existing conditions- Will we be able to get prescription drug ins. plans? will we have to pay retail? Is retail that much cheaper?. I confess it is what gives partner and me pause about leaving if chimp gets elected. Right now I have a great drug plan.

1. Unless we let them steal the election again...
...Kerry will win by a landslide and you won't have to move anywhere.

5. Honey, We've been fighting since the 60's
I am getting damned tired.Especially being gay and targeted as the first to go. I am also Union, another target. If I saw a legitimate resistance from our youth,I'd be more amenable to staying. I am to old to spend anymore time in jail than I did in the 70's. It's time for the youth to get busy.

28 years of living in sin is enough, and get some fine marijuana(good enough reason alone). As I said it is now time for the young ones. Where oh where is the weather underground? "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows"

12. What Bugs Me...
.. here is that buying cheaper drugs in Canada and other foreign countries means that we are outsourcing American jobs. If you don't care about American Jobs then go overseas for your drugs.

I’d use American drugs unless I had no choice in the matter.

It's one thing if you don't have the money. OK, if you're on welfare or a pension, go to Canada. But if you make, say, $40,000 or so a year, just to pull a figure out of the air, shame on you if you don't buy American.

20. "American" drugs are not all made in America....
Our pharmacology firms are big employers in the Republic of Ireland, for example.

And Chiron is an American company, but they chose to manufacture their flu vaccine in England. Perhaps you've heard the result.

21. My drugs cost over 1.5G per month if I had to pay
make over poverty level, barely, but with Partner's income we do just fine(mortgage paid as are drugs) That kind of money can really put a dent in my lifestyle

15. Boy do I ever hear the exhaustion in your post...
I've been "at it" since the 60's myself. As I've posted before, I am stunned that the US hasn't progressed any further than it has by now.

I'm older, disabled, poorer, exhausted. I keep fighting in the ways that are available to me. But, I worry that I'll never see "enlightenment" in this society!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?

One might assume we'd have found a cure for cancer by now..or any number of issues resolved.

This importing of drugs from Canada or elsewhere really boils my blood. I don't want Kerry or Bush or Mickey Mouse to tell me they are working on "approving" importation of medicines........I WANT MEDICINES TO BE CHEAP; BOUGHT AND SOLD RIGHT HERE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD PHARMACY!! WTF?? Dems aren't going to fix this problem either??

Screw the big drug companies! Already they are outsourcing their scientists and researchers to INDIA..much of what is available is already being made elsewhere and sent back here.....STILL WE PAY EXTORTIONIST PRICES!! What's up with that? If I were in charge..:eyes:..This would stop immediately. HEALTHCARE IS A RIGHT. I'd smack down the pharmceuticals so fast; put a cap on how much profit is ethical and make the government pay for the rest. It's unconsionable for anyone living here to be paying $600+ for life saving medicines!!!!

SOMEONE in leadership, one of these days MUST SAY: ENOUGH!
CAPS ON MOST EVERYTHING!!

18. I can relate
I too am gay and if chimpy steals another one I fear we will be doomed. Thankefully it is looking more and more like Kerry will win in a landslide.

6. Why would you...
...flee to Canada?

After Nov. 2nd we're going to have a Democratic White House & Senate, and a cowed GOP House of Rep. Why would you leave?

13. Well, allow me to set your fears at ease...
...John Kerry is going to win; there is going to be a Democratic majority in the United States Senate; and no one is going to have to "flee" anywhere.

19. We can only hope
I cant even begin to imagine the horror of another 4 years of chimpy. I volunteer with others from my church to help out at soup kitchens and it only seems to have gotten worse for the last 4 years. I wouldn't leave our country but I would be very depressed.

14. I heard that Canada can't afford to send or sell anymore
Flu vaccine to US because it would put them in jeopardy? True?

REally sad state of affairs here in Murika...

16. If you flee to Canada
and gain Residency status, you'll be eligible for medicare. Further, Canadian drugs are far less expensive than in the US. The only down side (for you) these days is that the Canadian dollar has risen to over 80 cents to the dollar (from a low of about 61) in about 18 months! If you're making the move, better do it quick!
