has made 3 or 4 nasty jokes about Gary Coleman. All about being a 'midget'. I'm no particular fan of Gary, but did see him on TV earlier today and he's every bit as articulate as anyone else in that debacle in California.

5. Um, Letterman isn't on here in Okla tonight. No big loss, I think he's an
idiot anyway.
I rarely watch TV and even more rarely late night network crap...I just happened to surf over NBC a bit ago. No big loss. :eyes:

15. I'll get to meet Leno at a corporate function in September. And coax him
He's speaking to the AARP in Chicago and my band is on the same bill. When I see him I'll ask him to keep dumping coals on the heads of the BushNazis to save our country and the planet. Don't know how receptive Leno'll be but I'm gonna make the effort.

However if you are a the son of a nazi married to a kennedy and have a history of not being able to control his willie you are somehow legitimate in the eyes of phony, lantern jawed dickwads with televised valentine jackoffs to greedy old prikkks.

16. Morford, is that YOU ? !
Reads like something worthy of the great Mark Morford. Unlike Leno, Morford is a genuine humorist. Small sample here:

Maybe we've just had enough. Enough of the macho all-American gun-totin' faux-cowboy ethos that says, if we just beat <insert nation/minority/progressive viewpoint here> up enough, they'll get the message and get in line and start complying with U.S. demands and we can expand our empire and crush all comers and their wimpy objections, too.

It is not yet time for delicious plates of schadenfreude. It is not yet time to relish Junior's slide into abject failure and scathing ratings and one-term histrionics -- you know, just like those suffered by his dear old dad. We are still too fragile, the feelings too raw, the wounds too recent from the current administration's mugging of the country.

But we are healing fast. We are coming back to life. We are opening our blackened eyes, realizing we have been massively and systematically and enthusiastically and intentionally duped by some very rich, very impotent white males three years running and it's damn near time for a domestic regime change and let's just float a Dean/Kerry (Kerry/Dean?) presidential ticket out there to the cosmic Void, see how it plays, shall we?

9. Leno isn't fit to open for Letterman....
Not only does he lack any sort of comedic timing, but he's so arrogant that self-deprication is completely foreign to him. He's simply not a funny guy. Every now and then he'll say something moderately funny (while delivering it in a completely unfunny manner), but in those rare instances you know it's that one of his writers got lucky took a shot in the dark.

Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 11:07 PM by syrinx9999
And he seemed pretty smart.

They asked him why Arnold was treated seriously when he is not. And he began his fairly thoughtful answer with "He's an adult-sized man..." I thought that was really kind of sad.

18. i was totally disgusted by that.
I thought that it was incredibly rude and insensitive. He demeaned mr. Coleman and treated him like a child. Mr. Coleman is a man. I had to turn the channell after the second joke. I couldn't believe that he would even do more. What a jackass.

23. no contest
Leno's a hack comedian. He has a good ear for a funny line. He doesn't hold a candle to Letterman. Letterman is funnier when his material sucks and he is forced to ad-lib. That was Johnny Carson's trademark as well, for you old-timers.

But it's not a bad thing to have the late-nite guys poking fun at you. You have to "be something" for that to happen. Jay, Dave, or even Johnny made fun of whoever was in power, or running for office - whatever gets a laugh. Don't take it too seriously.

24. Did anyone here
see Bush on Letterman during the election? I was impressed how he grilled him. I swear I haven't seen anyone ask Bush as tough questions on the enviornment and the death penalty as Letterman did that day...

Leno is a hack...and I think he lets Bush off very easilly.

Either way, I prefer Jon Stewart. But Conan is pretty funny too.

27. How clever of him!
:eyes:

Let's make fun of someone who has coped with a debilitating illness his entire life. If you want to make jokes about someone, fine, but only a bully would find humor in someone's stature cause by a medical condition.

Oooh, let's make fun of amputees or people with AIDS. What, that doesn't sound funny? Well, there's no difference in the case of Coleman and it's only a VERY lame comedian who would take such a cheap shot.

Growth hormone was approved in the U.S. in 1985 for use in children whose bodies don't produce enough natural growth hormone because of a deficiency or medical problems that interfere with growth, such as kidney failure. Actor Gary Coleman, best known for his role as Arnold on the sitcom Diff'rent Strokes is one example of someone whose growth was severely stunted by childhood kidney disease.
http://my.webmd.com/content/article/36/1728_61754

When he was very young, Coleman’s growth was stunted by kidney disease. By age 5 he had his first kidney transplant. But he didn’t let his illness stop him.
<snip>

In the early 1980s, the first kidney that had been transplanted disintegrated, leading to Coleman’s first stint on dialysis. He had a tube surgically implanted so dialysis could go on without interrupting the production schedule.

Making fun of someone due to a disability or being small is the same as making racist and sexist jokes.

David Letterman an idiot? I think he's incredibly clever--very smart and very funny. I wish I had seen the show with * on it. I just think he has to pander too much (for ratings) to the what the suits think is the adolescent male's humor preference.
