they've turned FSU football games into military recruiting events
handing out american flags to hold up; introducing fighter pilots; military parachuting out of army helicopters.
This is so depressing. Is it happening anywhere else or just here. I don't think I can bear to go to another game.

1. Oh you know Bush will do anything to win
Sounds like we are making for the Hitler stuff I swear. All this matching around with flags is just to far over the edge for me. News reels of the 30's are back and look where we are going. The war lovers are here.

8. I had a little altercation with one at the game. He just stopped
and stared very rudely at my Kerry button. So I asked him very politely, If you support Bush so much, why aren't you in Iraq?
Dead silence

6. Team sports ARE mock wars to keep young men in regional gangs.
You are witnessing the harvesting of a mentality.
The US vs THEM mentality that is the VERY CORE of organized competition with uniforms and an authoritarian hierarchy.

They are skimming off the testosterone that rises to the top with mock warfare.

Fuck corporate-financed team sports. The values represented are portrayed as TEAM supporting BUT they are in fact ENEMY destructive.

Welcome to Globalization in the Pee Wee Leagues!

Someone's signature quote said this and I dug it:

"Competition: an event in which there are more losers than winners. Otherwise, it is not a competition. A society based on competition is therefore primarily a society of losers." -- The Doubter's Companion

I'll be the first to admit I'm not a very faithful Wahoo fan, but thanks for reminding me the Cavs played today...

DS outside Charlottesville

(Never mind. I just looked at the sports section on CNN.com and saw the score. Ah, well, so much for the notion that we were filling our cost-$50-million-to-renovate football stadium with the next national champion team. Can we stop pretending to be a Big Sports school now?)

12. Its not just FSU, I went to the Nebraska game today
Fighter jet fly over, fireworks right after national anthem, introduced pilots later, made a mention of them flying in 'Operation Enduring Freedom' and 'Operation Iraqi Freedom'.

I think if they are going to do all that then they should request a moment of silence for those who have died in the 'Operations'.

It's important to honor those who have fallen, when we recognize those who survived.
