Look at the talent we have here at DU. I started a thread "would you want
Shrub's job". There are literally DOZENS of posts with perfectly good ideas and solutions to the quagmire/clusterfuck our country (with apologies to our esteemed foreign visitors) is facing. So why is it so difficult to get these incorporated into one campaign, (and I'm not endorsing anyone in particular here)?

Not to clutter the board, but after all isn't the reason we're all here in the first place to dope out some way to get rid of the fascist regime running from Crawford to 1600 PA Ave?

Oddly enough, I really have no legitimate excuse to complain...I'm a certified Old Phart with no children, make plenty enough bucks to live as I want as a consulting engineer and a commercial pilot and some would wonder why it even matters to me. There are times when I share that view and I admit it's a bit cynical. Why the hell should I care?

As an atheist, none of this ought to be of any import. Yet it does. And I am somewhat of a loss to explain it. Maybe I do embrace a modicum of what some would call a 'religious' belief...Karma, perhaps? Call it what you will, I just don't feel comfortable being complicit or even amenable to what just seems...wrong. Weird, eh?

Anyway, here's the other thread. Have a look if you care to.

And hoping my neighbor kid comes back from Iraq in one piece and alive.

2. I can relate to that
I too am an Old Phart with no children but not so financially secure.
And I was at one time an atheist but that did not stop me from having a sense of justice, which is what you are talking about. Having that sense of justice and a real caring for people has nothing to do with religious belief. In fact I truly believe that atheist are closer to the teachings of Jesus than are the present day Christians.
Another poster here pointed out that the one commandment Jesus did give was that we should love on another, and whether you believe in him or not it is wise council. I believe in Jesus and you do not, but so what, are goals are the same, to see justice done.
If I like Dean and you like Kerry so what. We will settle on one of them and if we stick together the goal will be attained, even if it is not easy.

3. Of course it matters to you -
you're a good man.

Your thoughts on goodness are interesting.

Say there are two men - both equally good in word and deed. One believes that he will be rewarded and is good so he can be with God. The other is good because his heart, his core, whatever - the part that's deep down and matters the most, is pure.

Kind of simplistic, but I would say that the latter would have to be the better man.
