How is everyone going to mark the "second year anniversary" of Sept 11????
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 09:42 PM by Valerie5555
I myself may do my usual reflection on the unsung heroes and heroines as well as possibly remember full well that "BUSH KNEW, TERRORISTS FLEW, and ABOUT THE SITUATION, NOTHING HE DID DO," and also may still consider it fairly irreverent that NYC officials actually did bury things like the World Trade Center debris and the dust and ashes of actual or alleged victims in a BLASTED landfill or dump of all places for "divine powers that be's sake."

On edit I may also think about how not all terrorists have Al Quaeda connections for there could be "every day terrorist incidents" such as bullying and muggings that also in a sense left their victims intimidated and terrorized.

3. Other than the above mentioned things I will go to my class as usual and
maybe try as much as possible to avoid the "bushcrap" filled movies about * acting "Presidential" on Sept 11 for I knew of certain ex American ambassadors who could KICK HIS BUTT in that department, acting firm, decisive and "Presidential" I meant.

I also knew of one other ex Ambassador who probably could do that too even tho he was originally CANADIAN.

2. seriously...
no offense to the famalies who lost loved ones...but I think it's time to move on and not to keep re-living that terrible day...

I will be going to work and concentrating on making my pay to keep my head above water...

I feel for the famalies but...let's move on...

6. I too feel that way in a way
so I would at least also be going to my class from 10 to noon as usual and also be checking my PO box afterwards.

Will also again be "thanking my lucky maple leafs" that a 1 time "local, Calgary boy who made good" in the sense of assisting in the escape of the American captives who eluded capture at their own embassy that was overrun by the Iranians some 20 odd years ago actually SURVIVED all that, since he is now somewhere in Manhattan.

I even suspected early yesterday morning, that New Yorkers even would want everyone to focus on anything other than THAT FOOTAGE of the TWIN TOWERS after THEY WERE HIT BY THOSE AIRPLANES and of THEM BURNING and COLLAPSING AFTERWARDS, though I DO NOT claim to speak for New Yorkers.

4. Reflect on the horrible state of the world.
As I find myself doing at least once everyday. Other than that, nothing special.

11. I may also think about how WE ALL probably would have been WAY BETTER
OFF had the DEMOCRATIC (pardon the pun) PROCESS been ALLOWED to TAKE ITS COURSE and AL GORE been allowed to take office as the American President or had Martin Sheen financed a "VAST WEST WING CONSPIRACY" to chuck out the 22nd Amendment WHEN IT COUNTED and had WILLIAM CLINTON been ALLOWED TO RUN FOR and BE ELECTED to PRESIDENTIAL TERM # 3.

24. I was thinking on a much broader scale.
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 09:55 PM by Ein
But you raise some interesting points. I wouldn't have wanted more Clinton, he seemed to haved moved to the right over the course of his administration, which pisses me off (being a liberal and all), and I don't think he would've been able to pull in the votes.

25. What I meant was he probably would have at least
AVERTED or PREVENTED something like a September 11 incident and I have a feeling we all would have been better off had that not happened.

5. This is terrible - part of me will thank whatever powers there are
that I did not go on the interview that a broker called me for - I had been out of a contract for a little over a month, and I just said "NO". I don't know why - just a gut.

I got up early that day and switched on the TV - not my normal - at first I thought I had a "movie" channel. The 2nd plane had not yet hit and I called my husband and told him - 3 hours behind - it was surreal and I will never ever forget it.

side)- both newspaper front pages. Union Square was the sanity place those days so. I have to be there. A peace vigil in the evening around Ground Zero.

15. When I meant that was a place of sanity - I was never alone
there. People spontaneously gathered - in 2001 - because it was forbidden to go south from there 9to ground zero). Last year there were protests and vigils too. The evening vigil will be big - but they asked for no signs - so I'll just be wearing my T-shirt+button :"Bush Knew"

17. I may reflect on a few Sept 11 related things like how war and terrorism
may lead to more war and terrorism, but otherwise I may not consider the whole thing to be such a big deal since I wasn't really directly affected. I may even wonder what was the big deal about terrorism since as Wonk said, more people even die from things such as accidents, afflictions that may or may not be treatable or preventable such as the 'flu or cancer, or even from garden variety murders every day.

I even remembered reading a Skeptical Inquirer article about that as well.

10. Pause and reflect on the 42,000+ traffic fatalities every year, and the
600,000 (approx) Americans who die of cancer every year, and put the ~3,000 horrible deaths on 9/11 into perspective in the bigger picture.

12. How about all the people who DIE from FLU complications
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 09:39 PM by Valerie5555
for if anyone is older and didn't get their flu shot they may get pneumonia or something. 'nuff said.

On edit maybe we should also reflect on the larger picture of the 35,000 or so kids who die from HUNGER and AVERTIBLE ILLNESSES each day in the THIRD WORLD.

Which ties into cancer, deaths by wildfires, and the heatwave deaths in Europe, among other things.

22. Same here
And I may try to AVOID AT ALL COSTS Bush's little "MY FELLOW AMERICANS, HERE IS HOW WE ARE TO MARK THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE TERRORIST INCIDENTS OF SEPT 11" speech which I would consider to be TRULY PATRONIZING.

By the way if my Amazon books ever arrive on that day, I may "let the chips fall where they may" and actually pick them up on that day.

Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 09:51 PM by mitchum
I was flying out of NY last Sept 11 and the "journalist" asked me if I was hesitant. I told him, "You've got to be kidding. This has to be the safest day of the year" He continued to press with, "Not even a little?" I answered, "Fuck no", and my mom didn't get to see me on the Nightly News. Sorry mom.

23. Think I will avoid all TV at all costs on that day
and spend the rest of the day recovering from my classes since I usually like to go to them bright and early Thursday mornings so I could go to them on my own.

29. Its my birthday too
I went out in 2001 and 2002. 2001 wasn't a big deal, because it hadn't really sunk in for a lot of people.

Last year, though, I had people looking at me like I was an asshole.
