2. Also, by the time Japan surrendered, the people were torn between
just wanting the war to be over (they were camping out in rubble and living on starvation rations) and fear that the Americans would treat them as badly as their troops had treated conquered peoples.

Accustomed to obeying authority, they laid down their arms when the emperor ordered them to.

The behavior of the American troops was a pleasant surprise to the Japanese population. The Occupation was managed by New Deal veterans who genuinely wanted to turn Japan into a democratic country, not by multinational corporations out to turn the country into an economic libertarian test case (see Naomi Klein's article "Badhdad Year Zero" in the September issue of Harper's).

The results speak for themselves. There was no guerilla resistance to the American Occupation.

Any comparison between Iraq in 2004 and Japan in 1946 is totally bogus.

3. I guess they've told him not to use Germany as an example!
After all, Hitler's "Werwolf" resistance had collapsed and there weren't suicide bombings and snipings taking place a year and a half after the end of the war!

5. i was thinking to myself today
how blatant they are with their lies, these two people who head up our whole government, and all their political advisors and hacks. Blatant as the noonday sun. Why? Because they KNOW that the press will never call them on their lies.

How incredibly, criminally, tragically disserved we are by our media. Jon Stewart was right, but needed about 3 more hours to fully lay out the case, Goddess bless him.
