For both Red Sox and Yankee fans - Please Read
I am saying this as a 17+ year die hard Yankee fan.

Of course like all of you I am proudly sporting my team's colors here in Tucson Arizona even when I table for Kerry.

To me this election is the only contest I care about. I actually am willing to see the Sox beat the Yanks if it meant Kerry delivering his own game winning speech to take home the election.

My beloved Yankees are millionaires and they don't care what happens to me or my future. I am an out of work college grad struggling to find a job before the financial aid warriors come hunting for me.

So as I tell all my fellow Red Sox fans I run into on campus, of course root for your team, of course cheer for your side, but guys this election is what is important this year, and last I checked both Mass and NY are going for Kerry so I don't really feel like getting nasty with whom I consider my political brothers.

Guy today wearing all Red Sox red comes up to our table, we tease eachother for a moment, then he proceed to slap Kerry stickers all over his shirt and I think "hey when it comes to what is important we're on the same side"

So game on guys, and good luck whoever you're rooting for, but just remember this election is the contest we must ALL win.

1. I posted almost the exact same thing a few weeks ago.
I've been a Yankees fan since I was 7. I'm 31 now. I'm as die-hard as they come and relish watching the Red Sox suffer almost as much as I enjoy watching the Yanks win.

However, if the Red Sox winning the World Series could create some sort of New England karma or momentum in Kerry's favor, I'd be willing to swallow my pride and watch -- HAPPILY.

2. I hate the fucking yankees with all my fucking heart
but if they win the WS and Kerry wins the election I won't care, Kerry winning is a priority compared to the Yankees choking, and this coming from a Yankee hater since birth. I know its only 17 years but you get the picture. Since MA and NY are safe dem states, can we ridicule Texas :D, after all they have a team in the playoffs.

7. not you I know
I am just teasing. Virginia is just as bad as Texas when it comes to electing guys named George who got everywhere because of their dads.

3. Double play...ah, fuck me!
Yeah, whatever.
I'm kidding...the World Series winner ain't gonna change the world one way or another. The winner of this election will, for better or much, much worse.
Democrat first, Sox fan second. THIS year! :D

8. geez . . . how can people hate a baseball team? . . .
I'm a Yankee fan, but I like the Red Sox too . . . I'm rooting for the Yanks to win the series, but if they don't I'll be cheering for the Sox in the World Series . . . it's only a game, folks, and both these teams are pretty special . . .

9. Why do I hate the Yankees?
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 12:43 AM by JohnKleeb
1996, Garcia even admits he would have called fan interference. I am not a red sox fan, I root against them when it comes to the Yankees, and being treated like crap by yankee fans doesn't help my view of the team. I don't really hate the yankees but strongly dislike hell yes.

Liking both the Yankees and the Red Sox? That's like cheering for Rocky AND Drago "just to put on a good fight."

10. even though baseball is my passion
Politics is more important.
I will be viewing the debates tomorrow night instead of the Sox/Yankees game
(but I'll keep track of the score by my cell phone ;) )

13. Hehe I was thinking about you tonight when I saw the game
I was all like, "Poor WindRaven! I hope she doesn't get eaten by a bunch of crazy ass Sox fans in her dorm."

Then I had a mental picture of a bunch of crazed people in Sox jerseys all painted red with torches and pitchforks tying you to the Green Monster like some kind of sacrifice...and I realized I hang out on DU WAY too much. And also watch too many bad kaiju movies.

11. I got a similar story with the Cubs and the hated Cards.
Except since we live in the Midwest, we don't really hate each other. We just kinda went out and drank a bit. But the story was similar.

12. Thanks for the voice of reason
From one Yankees fan to another. People everywhere need to calm the fuck down. It's just a damn game.

The election? Not a game. Keep your eyes on the prize, ya'll.

18. Well, as a fan of your possible opponent in the World Series
This proud, red wearing Cardinals fan is working all he can to have Missouri go blue. There are matters that supercede sports rivalries, and the future of our country is one of them.

That being said, no matter which, Yankees or Sox, makes the series, the Cardinals are going to make toast out of them:evilgrin:
