Christopher Reeve Dies at 52
MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Actor Christopher Reeve, who soared through the air and leapt tall buildings as "Superman," turned personal tragedy into a public crusade, becoming the nation's most recognizable spokesman for spinal cord research — from a wheelchair. Reeve went into cardiac arrest Saturday while at his Pound Ridge home, then fell into a coma and died Sunday at a hospital surrounded by his family, his publicist said. He was 52.

2. See, Laura Bush was right
Didn't she say that stem cell research wouldn't show results helpful for any people currently suffering? Well, Reeves's death shows she was right on! Feel better about Bush's decision to hamstring research now?

3. The Superman Curse

Some years ago I remember reading about a purported curse on actors who portrayed Superman on tv and on film. A number of these actors had untimely deaths and injuries.

George Reeves, who played Superman/Clark Kent on the old tv show died fairly young, and I beleive his death was reported as suicide.

Does anyone here at DU know more about the so-called Superman Curse?

6. There was some evidence and speculation that George was murdered.

5. Damn it!
And Kerry just mentioned him on Friday. This is sad. I hope he's flying and running at the speed of a train where he's at.

8. Very sad....
He never gave up hope of walking and worked so hard for stem cell research. I was at an art house movie theatre last year in Westchester county where he lived and he was there too, he was right behind me. Nobody bothered him after and I just smiled as I walked by...I actually felt honored in his presence.
