Internets = AYBABTU?
I didn't catch debate #3, so just like AYBABTU, I need someone to explain the joke to me.

I've tried searching, but all I find are the jokes about internets and wood. Nothing about what they're sending up.

Help?

P.S. My country lost it's hope of regime change, so this Aussie gal needs a laugh. (cries)

1. He was referring to 'rumors on the Internets'
about a possible draft if he's re-elected. The way he said it, it was kind of like 'those new-fangled flying cars' -- as if (and it's probably true enough) he had no freakin' idea what the hell the Internet was.

2. In response to a question about the draft
Bush said, "There's been rumors on the internets."

Bush has claimed that small businesses would be hurt by a repeal of tax cuts for those making more than $200,000. Kerry pointed out that this is deceptive, in that people like Bush, who made $84 in a timber operation last year, are considered "small business owners." Bush responded, "I own a timber company? Need some wood?"

Turns out, Bush DOES own a share of a timber company, though it is now in oil and gas production, according to www.factcheck.org.

5. wait, you forgot a line!
wasn't it, "I own a timber company? That's news to me!... <insert particularly dorky expression here>... need some wood?"

So the guy doesn't even know what he owns and that he would be included in the '900,000 business owners affected' number? Maybe he should read about some of this stuff before he actually opens his mouth! ... I know, I know... stupid suggestion... READ, hah!

4. These come from remarks Bush made
at one point he mentioned the Internet, only he made it plural rather than singular, and it just sounded weird.

Kerry, in explaining how the Republican's definition of 'small business' was skewed by including rich people who invested in them, gave the example of Bush, who owns 1% of a company invovled in wood (I didn't catch whether it was a lumber company, logging company, or what). When Bush stood up for rebuttal, he said he didn't know he owned part of the company, then asked, "Anybody want to buy some wood?" which made him look stupid rather than clever.

9. Doesn't he and the family have blind trusts thanks to Sen. Prescott Bush?
and the Nazi money they took?

I'm suprised * knows what the family investments are. He needs deaf & dumb trusts, in addition to a blind one, obviously.

7. well, apparently bush* let it leak that there is another...
internet that only rich people knew about. It probably has stock tips that you can really make money off of, penis and breast enhancers that really work, and ex-nigerian dictators that really do need a place to park their money.

Once again we discover that we are getting only a cheap imitation.

10. He must take everything Al Franken says literally
Al Franken has a running joke in which he pretends to be technology-ignorant by talking about having an internet at home or how he just got an internet and you should get one, too, etc.. That's not exactly how he tells it, but the general idea is that he doesn't understand the basic concept of the internet... it's funny when Al does it. Bush wasn't joking, though.

11. "internets" is the official Bushism (the language) for ....
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 09:04 PM by coreystone
Internet sites. I believe that there are variances to the concept of what the definition of "internet" is, but, I am reasonably sure the George would care to utilize the Bush "sham speak" term...which, of course, would be "internets"!

I can't understand why this has been something that confuses anyone. Certainly, anyone versed in "sham speak" can make it up as they utter each and ever syllable.

Just imagine how much easier it will be when we have MASTERED "new speak"!

I am so disappointed!

:silly:
