I'm told that a lot of the good economic conditions in the 90's where created by the growth in the IT industry and the dot coms along with good economic policy.

If Kerry is elected and has good economic policy that alone won't create jobs like were created in the 90's. Don't we need another home grown industry to catch fire during his first term to create the millions of jobs needed?

I get worried at times that if and when Kerry is elected, he won't be able to create the jobs he promised. I don't think Presidents create jobs, they can help create the climate for job growth.

I'm optimistic that his Presidency will be good for us but how good?

1. If we poured money into
R&D of exotic energy sources, I bet we'd end up with some interesting discoveries.

4. Absolutely, right.
The design and engineering of hydrogen production and storage is going to be the next boom. If the US can beat the rest of the world to it (we do have the best scientists in the world here), we'll see a global rennaisance. (Pretty optimistic, but I think it could happen.)

Nanotech will most likely be a flop, but you never know. (By this, I mean we'll probably not see any "nanorobots" or "self replicating machines" in the near future.) Of course, elements of what we call nanotechnology will be necessary for new hydrogen technologies.

6. You got that right!
Alternative, green, localized energy resources (away from centralized, toxic and non-renewable resources) are the way to go.

2. It had better be ....
renewable energy. We have 50 years of fossil fuels left. We had better get started.

5. I don't think bubble economics is the answer for the future.
Bubbles burst.

We need take control over the economy and work towards sustainability, not to go on as usual and hope for a giant speculation bubble that delays the inevitable breakdown of the economy.
