Will the Rupublicans Nuke a US city to win the election
Is this the "Surprise" Rove was talking about?

Do you think they would go this far? After all, they have everything to lose.

1. I don't doubt they would - but I do doubt that they actually will.
They now have too many enemies in the intelligence community and in the military to get away with it!

2. You know I read this . . .
. . . and I thought "this is ridiculous."

But given who we're dealing with . . . is it really so absurd. . . ?

Yes, it is. Even this crowd wouldn't nuke an American City would they?

4. Yes, I wouldn't surprise
Republicans are crybabies and they couldn't stand losing to others. They will nuke a city to make a point if they see the benefit from that.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

5. The only reason they WOULDN'T
(not the murder of millions of blacks, jews, and liberals...they'd have no problem with that)

Too much damage to the economy, even for the Aristocracy.

No, I don't think they'd do it.

On the other hand, I have consistently underestimated how Evil they are from the very first.

6. Look at it this way...
They killed 3000 Americans on 9/11.

They've killed over 1000 American soliders in Iraq.

They've killed - what? - 20,000 Iraqis, many of them civilians.

They know that many of them will be going to prison or the gas chamber for treason under President Kerry.

7. Will they? No. Unless Bush is really really tanking.
Then it would become an issue not of "Would they" but an issue of "How many will they".

Think about those suitcase nukes and the dirty bombs.

They would have to hit more than one city, since the Repukes always think that all the Dems' base are urban . . .

10. A meme we need to spread!
Any terrorist attack on U.S. soil is an explicit showing of the failure of the * administration to protect us. Any attack whatsoever is a stark example of the failure of their war on terror. It means that they must go, not that they must stay.

12. THey've got something BETTER. My tinfoil hat theory.
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 12:49 PM by Ready4Change
The Bush administration ordered that the current state of the "Star Wars" missile defense system be installed and operational in October of this year. (Fact: http://www.fpif.org/briefs/vol8/v8n01missile.html )

Why that date? So they can "shoot down" a missile from a rogue nation (n.Korea) that they will claim would have otherwise nuked an American city. There won't be enough time before the elections to clear up what really happened and terrorized Americans will install Bush in the White House for another four years before the erroneous nature of the missile shootdown is uncovered and apologies are made to n.Korea. Bush in the meantime will be praised for his wise restraint in not nuking n.Korea under such circumstances.

My :tinfoilhat: 2 cents.

16. wow, that is good theory..
or biological weapons such as deadly flu and dump it on 'blue' states then place a blame on terrorists.

Bush can use that excuse like "Election is distracting our counterterrorist organizations and let's abolish the election so we can focus on terrorist activities and keeping our God's country, America safe!"

In my :tinfoilhat: theory there is no missile. They just say there was.

How would we know? Who has the capability to naysay our missile defense folk?

14. Try another angle.....
In late October - the terror threat will spike...and miraculously they will "find" a suitcase or small nuclear device somewhere in America.

They will tout this as proof they are working hard and succeeding in protecting America.

The don't need to have something actually happen, their fear mongering is doing such a good job for them.

He was in town yesterday and they had such overkill for security it was disgusting. It would be laughable if it wasn't done to keep the scare factor up and it didn't cost so much.

20. maybe, maybe not
After all, if they're not competant enough to sneak WMDs into Iraq, setting off a nuke "deniably" is probably beyond them.

Shrubbie probably doesn't know it, but there's people at DoE and IAEA that do: the pattern of isotopes in the fallout are like a fingerprint for identifying the source of the bomb material.

NK or Pakistan would have rather impure uranium or plutonium. A US nuke would be a very pure plutonium isotope, a russian nuke similar (but not *quite* the same) as a US nuke. You also get irradiated bomb-casing that would have distinctive differences. And this stuff can be measured in single-atom quantities.

Even if ShrubCo stole or cancelled the election by nuking Seattle, how long do you think he'd survive when it came out that he was the one responsible?

of course Bush himself wouldn't be pushing the button. But if he was aiming for Seattle he'd probably hit Japan by mistake.

I can just imagine one of the freepers reading this thread and laughing their asses off.

Do you honestly think that someone would be so evil as to nuke a city like Seattle in order to insure a political win? If so, we are in deeper trouble than I thought.

26. Isn't is a sad state of affairs that this scenerio can't automatically be
ruled out due to some point of ridiculuousness?

It is sad because this scenerio CAN be considered a possibility with these thugs controlling OUR government.

No sane person could rule this out, considering how they are willing to kill THOUSANDS based on proven lies - or haven't you noticed that we are currently engaged in Iraq?

30. I doubt it
While the Bush Administration has shown their willingness to kill civilians numbering tens of thousands in the course of their agenda I'm guessing that any sort of October Surprise -- if there's any reason to influence voters with Diebold and ES&S counting the votes -- would be something making Bush out to be a hero. In particular I've been thinking in terms of democrats being persuaded to call for/attempt to start conscription with the whole thing being projected onto Kerry by association and ending with Bush riding in and shooting it down. I couldn't guess how exactly it would be pulled off though.

As everyone is doubtlessly aware Rangel's bill was brought out and burned a few days ago; today I came across this:

In spite of denials by the Bush administration, half of young Americans believe President Bush wants to reinstate the military draft, a national poll suggests.

I imagine the prospect of conscription alone is enough to make a lot of people decide how to vote.

Also from that article:
"Young voters are much more misinformed about the presidential candidates' positions on the draft than the population in general," said Kate Kenski, an analyst at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center.

I wonder where she thinks the troops are going to come from for Iran, Syria and any other nation on the PNAC hitlist. I wonder if she's heard of PNAC.
