Request for data: state and federal returns on the tax dollar, per county
I already have state returns on the federal tax dollars; you can see a compliation of the data I have in http://leftist.i8.com/maps.html - the last two links contain maps showing states that pay more than they receive in blue and states that receive more than they pay in red.

By the same token, I'm looking for data on which counties pay more than they receive adn which receive more than they pay - in terms of both federal and state tax (even though federal tax is more important).

1. Well this is interesting. I did see a county one on how they voted.
Most interestring was one that tinted how they voted,so their were darn few real red. I think you may have to go to each state but if each state has that it must be on this internet some place. Does this thing have a fact site like the book on facts you can buy? I guess I will have to look around more. Hard to get used to having this stuff at home.I had read Maine pays more than it gets so this was a shock.I would like to study the maps more but it just did not print.

2. Didn't print? Strange...
Have you tried saving them to your har disk and opening them with whatever software you have for viewing gif's?

Anyway, I also have the electoral maps - I have state-by-state maps colored red, green, and blue proportionally to Bush, Perot/Nader, and Clinton/Gore vote repsectively for 1992 and 2000. They're a little muddy, though, because they're in JPEG format.

In www.uselectionatlas.com there's a map of all the counties and how they voted, with heavily Democratic ones being in dark red and heavily Republican oens being in dark blue, but there is still no real middle ground; Florida, for example, was shown in blue even though Bush won it by only 587 counted votes, whereas my maps show it in purple. Some time in the future I might decide to start working on county-by-county purple maps (maybe after 2004), but with thousands of counties I think it'll be a waste of time.

Actually, the datum that shocked me the most about the return on the tax dollar was Alaska's ~1.50 return on the tax dollar. I'd always thought that with its oil it'd send far more in tax revenue to the federal government than received back.
