Closet Kerry Supporters
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 08:31 PM by BensMom
I live in the heartland -**formerly** solid repuke state.

I do not see many bumper stickers or yard signs. The more I talk to people the more I hear of support for Kerry, and this is from all types of people. I am just a friendly sort (enough to embarrass the kids) and I am always talking to people - in the grocery line, at the school parent teachers conferences, at red lights waiting to cross the street, in my neighborhood and at the malls...you name it, I am doing my own campaign work.

I am hearing SOLID support for Kerry and not wishy washy wait and see stuff. People are sick and tired of the last 4 years. And they are ready to cast their votes.

So why is everyone so quiet about it?
I am so excited about the change on the way, I can not keep quiet.

I think the repukes have brain washed America. They want people to think if you are not a repuke, you do not support the troops. If you are not a repuke, you do not believe in god. If you question government you are not a good citizen.

I am amazed the way American has changed in just the last 4 years. I need my country back.

Why is my America so quiet??

Edited because spelling is hard work

1. Keep Talking
I keep asking people the same thing: "Why so quiet?" "What are you really afraid of?"

6. Nov. 2 may surprise the repugs
I hope it's a landslide of undeclared Kerry votes.
One of my clients, (a staunch repug) told me that she has now changed her mind, due to the debate. It was all I could do not to jump up and do a happy dance!

3. Lulling into a false sense of security
I believe that people are afraid of getting into a confrontation with others but that doesn't change how they feel. I, maybe naively, think its an advantage that people are being somewhat quiet about their support. As long as * doesn't realize how many people are ready for a change he gets lulled into a false sense of security - part of his problem at the debate the other night.

Lot of Kerry supporters, but most who come out get chastized by the local idiot squad W supporters with all of thier spew and stupid jokes, like so:

(Little background first, took my granny's Dacschund out for a walk and slapped a kerry sticker on her back, so it would match my kerry shirt I had on.)

I go up the street to a little carnival, and someone tells me "Hahaha, who SHIT on your dog??? I see a kerry sticker there, how appropriate, REAL close to the ASS hahahahahahaha." They then tell me someone shit on my shirt too and I should go change it.

morans....

anyways, I think that is one reason why most do not come right out and say it, they are saving themselves the trouble having to hear stupidity at its best all the time everywhere they go, like I do.

5. I agree! My republican co-worker likes to talk
about how his views represent "the views of the majority of the people in the U.S."

8. I know it's a dangerous thought, but I keep wondering
...whether the polls and media perceptions on this campaign haven't been just wildly off base and there are going to be major surprises come election day, barring a terrorist event or marshall law. I know the Creep has some real hard-core support, and I live in an urban North East state so I really have no idea, but I keep hearing stories like this from the so-called heartland (what are we, chopped liver?). I also hear a LOT about intimidation, explicit or otherwise, and that stuff has its effect too. And I keep wondering whether in the privacy of the voting booth people are going to pull the lever--or push the button--for the guy who is clearly NOT a complete fraudulent idiot, whatever they think their boss or neighbors would say. And well end up with a lot of tut-tutting stories in the media, bubble heads smacking their heads and saying Gosh, how'd we get it so dad-blamed wrong?

A dangerous fantasy because we need to fight our asses off right up to the end, whatever we think the polls do or don't mean.

Still, I'll say one thing: the Aura of Inevitability--Rove's prime election-winning tactic--has been punctured, stymied just at the moment it was really supposed to kick in, perhaps irrevocably. If nothing else, Kerry's debate performance did that, and I think it's a huge difference.

13. BensMom, I believe your post
points to the "escaped tiger who has found a clever hiding place" in this election circus. Many will hold their own counsel to keep the peace in their families and communities. In the privacy of the poll, they will make their opinions known. I, for one, hang on to the belief that Americans CANNOT be THAT STUPID. Even those whose very identies are tied up with their political affiliation have not been spared the pain this *PNAC wrecking crew has inflicted.

WELCOME to DU and thanks for your post! :toast:

14. There is a reason for the lack of yard signs...
I called my local Democratic campaign headquarters a few days ago to ask about some Kerry signs for my lawn. The campaign worker I talked to said that they are not encouraging people to put up their signs just yet. He said that since emotions are running so high, alot of signs are going to be stolen or destroyed, so it's best to wait until the election is a bit closer. (I think bringing your signs in at night is a good deterrent--I've been doing that for a couple of years.)
