1. I believe that war symboloizes a collossal failure of human relations.

And is something we should look upon as a disgusting tragedy in all forms and the very existance of a war should make us all do whatever it takes to fix the problem.

That said, I believe that people have the right to use force to remove despots. I believe in self-defence.

I also believed that we can have a world without war, we just have to start trying to create one.

Oh, and both the Iraqi and Afghani wars were completely atrocious.

2. Yes, but there is some uncertainty.
Isn't there always?
I suppose defense isn't considered murder. But then I believe in "Thou shalt not kill". That doesn't leave much room for translation. And "Love thy enemy" is even more dramatic. I don't see any room for making an argument for war, at all. One could say it's just the bible, a book. But of anything ever written or stated, nothing has ever come close to what is stated in it. It surpasses philosophy. No philosopher ever resurrected from the grave. I'll take the Ten Commandments as truth, over anything else that is out there. And under those conditions, war isn't a point of discussion. So one could ask what is defense. And I believe it is the same as war. That makes me a pacifist.

4. other.
I don't view war or peace as a blanket proposal.

Justifiable war is not an impossibility, it just hasn't been a real question in my lifetime.

5. No, I'm all for kicking the asses of those who deserve it.
Fighting in the right is honorable, fighting in the wrong is ignoble.

7. Opposed to the vast majority of wars, think self-defense...
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 07:51 PM by Darranar
and humanitarian intervention in very limited cases is justifiable, but nothing else.

Wondering about option #2... are those who voted for it opposed to self-defense if a country other than the US is attacked?

8. I wouldn't tell you if I was a pacifist.

Not with the way the cops and the protest warriors beat up pacifists and the way the courts put them in jail these days.

If fascism didn't exist, I'd probably be a pacifist. As things stand, the closest I come to Pacifism is living on the left coast.
