Does anyone have any info about what FEMA will cover after the
hurricanes in Florida? I have been through three storms now in six weeks and have spent about $2,000 out of pocket. I keep hearing rumors that FEMA will pay for travel during evacuation, for generators, for insurance deductibles etc.. I went to their website but it was ambiguous as to what they will cover. You have to give up some very personal info like SSN, income, bank account numbers etc. just to apply and I don't want to do that if I'm not eligible for assistance. Does anyone have any personal experience with this?

1. My neighborhood
has flooded 4 times this year. My basement has had water 3 out of the 4 times.

The first flood of the year was in January, at that time I applied for FEMA assistance and was denied assistance. I was told that I could apply for an SBA loan to cover the damages. I was also concerned about all the personal information that the SBA application asked for, so I just sucked it up and paid for the damages out of pocket.

My neighborhood has flooded twice this month as a result of the rains from Hurricane Francis and Ivan. Ivan decimated the neighborhood, two houses were knocked off their foundations, and every one of my neigbors had flooded basements.

I had nearly 3 feet of water in my basement. My furnace is ruined and I lost many personal items stored in the basement. I'm still waiting for the flood insurance adjuster to show up.

The FEMA inspector is due tomorrow. In January, the FEMA inspector demanded to see every room in the house, even though the water never even can close to the first floor. The inspector also took notes on how many computers, TV sets and VCR's we own. That alone really pissed me off.

I will be asking many more questions when the FEMA inspector shows up this time, and may try to deny him access to the unaffected areas of my home.

From my past experience, I don't expect to see any FEMA assistance. This time I'll be forced to take on the SBA loan if I want to have heat this winter.

I wish you luck brother, just don't expect too much from FEMA.
