University of Arizona Professor Reported to FBI for "Hating" America

After a series of ads in the University of Arizona newspaper railed against left-wing professors, a student allegedly reported Professor David Gibbs to the FBI for being "an anti-American communist who hates America."

A series of ads have been running in student newspapers across the country charging that universities are dominated by liberal or left-wing professors. The ads are paid for by well-funded groups like Students for Academic Freedom and the Independent Women's Forum. Some of the ads encourage students to report any so-called anti-American faculty or statements made by professors. And that is apparently what happened to David Gibbs, an Associate professor of History and Sociology at the University of Arizona. After his Spring course "What is Politics?", a student wrote the following on an anonymous evaluation form:

"I believe that the university should check into David Gibbs. He is an anti-American communist who hates America and is trying to brainwash young people into thinking America sucks. He needs to go and live in a Third World country to appreciate what he has here. Have him investigated by the FBI. FBI has been contacted."

• David Gibbs is an associate professor of History and Sociology at the University of Arizona. He has an article in the journal New Political Science called "Pretexts and U.S. Foreign Policy: The War on Terrorism in Historical Perspective."

5. I'm a teacher's assistant

while i finish my graduate work - and it's amazing how badly parents screw up their kids' u.s. and global world view.. by the time they are 18 and get to me I have to practically reverse brainwash them. but this is san diego which is more of a conservative city than most in california (although our state assemblywoman for district 76 is out-and-proud homosexual, ironically - because even the republicans here recognize how good she is ;) )

3. That's not the case with my school

From what I have seen, I only know one liberal professor, and she is a math, economics teacher. Constantly makes subtle remarks about bush and gives examples on bad economics.

7. this is scary to me

I'm currently reading "Reading Lolita in Tehran" about a professor who teaches a small group of girls in her home after the Taliban becomes so restrictive at her university that she feels compelled to leave her position. Her description of how the university is able to persecute those who don't comply reminds me of what is happening in our country. It's like the press and access. If you don't muffle your voice, you'll be outcast. No access. No promotions. No appointments. So. You decide. Your career or your conscience.

8. And well it should be....

because there are total idiots - even that come on these chat boards - who live to "turn people in" at the drop of a hat and we in America are so paranoid under the Idiot Bush regime that the FBI has to run to and fro looking into these frivolities... it is REALLY sick. I went through it when some commode-for-breath on a board such as this one turned me in when I had a little graphic that said "Eliminate Bush" on it... the agent, sheriff and I had a nice visit, they understood but HAD to spend the tax money to make a check on all claims, we had a good laugh and all is well; but it is such a silly thing to do to people.
BTW (eliminate Bush) meant to get his ugly monkey warmongering tail out of the oval office chair!
