Decisions, decisions......What would YOU do?
Thursday night is the first debate and I REALLY want to see it! Thursday night is also a fundraiser for Tari Renner who is running for congress in my district. The fundraiser is an hour away from me which means I would miss the ENTIRE debate. :( I have donated time and money to the Renner campaign so it's not like I have already helped him. I'm TORN! I want to watch the debate, but feel guilty about not going to his fundraiser. What would you do? I don't have Tivo so, that's out. Besides, watching something in real time is so much better than seeing it after the fact. I also like the DU feedback on these things...LIVE, REAL TIME THINGS...like the primaries...that was so much fun! Opinions? Would I be a horrible person if I stayed home to watch the debate? I can't decide what to do.

Decisions, decisions. What would you do?

1. Watch the debate..that's what you
really want to do. If you don't you'll always wish you had.

2. well
The debate is something which does not involve your participation, you cannot make much difference in it. But a fundraiser you might be able to contribute to.

I would tape it to VCR or at least come home and check the DU threads on it and then go and do something where you can make a difference.

But I do understand the dilemma - but there will be more debates :)

3. There's 3 debates.
And only one opportunity for tari renner to be nearby. My 2 cents.

5. Hey, Incog
I was about to tell you to do what you wanted to do - after all, who would plan a political fundraiser for the night of the debate anyway... but then I read Straight Story's response... well, that made a lot of sense, too.

Soooo, a lot of help I am! :D

8. LOL

The fundraiser was planned before the chimp ever made up his mind and when I found out the first debate was on the same night I was REALLY bummed! :(

6. The fundraiser is a fundraiser
Are you volunteering at it or just donating. I'd just donate and do what you want. If you planned to volunteer then I'd suggest getting a TV at the event. Every other Dem is thinking the same thing you are.

I'm deciding whether I want to watch the debate with my family or at a Dem party. I'm thinking I want to be in a more intimate setting so I can throw things at the TV and leave the room. We'll see.

9. I would prefer to watch at home,
like you, so I can scream, throw a fit...you know, the things one does when the chimp is on TV. ;) I've already volunteered to help the campaign. All they have to do is email me or call and I'm there. This fundraiser would be just that...to donate the $$$, which I could do instead of going there to "hand" the money to them. I have met Tari a couple of times so, it's not like I would be missing out on the chance to meet the candidate. <sigh>

7. Find out if a radio station will be airing it.
It wouldn't be the same as seeing it but at least you'd be able to hear it on the way over if you decide to go.

10. It will surely be on
NPR. Do you have an NPR station you can be listening to? Maybe the fundraiser will also have a TV tuned to the debate. Suggest it to someone with the campaign.

11. Go to the fundraiser, and then
got to the C-SPAN website and watch the debate there.
C-SPAN will archive it.

12. There'll be a TV somewhere at the fundraiser - or some other way of
of looking in on the debate - I mean, considering how interested people will be, and the organizers must know that alot of people are asking themselves the same question - Debate? or Fundraiser? - maybe you could make a telephone call and find out?

16. WOOHOO! GREAT NEWS!!!!!!
I just saw an announcement on C-SPAN about the debate, venue and time so I decided to see if Renner had posted a time yet for the fundraiser and.....

The fundraiser is 5:30 to 7:30!!! That gives me an hour and a half to get back home in time for the debate!!! The debate starts at 9:00!!! I think that's 9:00 ET so, 8:00 CT I can still go to the fundraiser, leave at 6:30-7:00 and still be home in time for the debate! Now I can do BOTH! I'm better now...Thanks all for your opinions! I'm a happy camper. :bounce:

17. I know
My son's playing in the band at a football game and I'm in charge of the concession stand. It's a responsibility I've committed to, so I'll miss the debate in real time. :(
